The program structure models the collaborative philosophy characteristic of the program. It is cross-disciplinary, meaning that it incorporates faculty from the School of Education, the Gore School of Business, the School of Arts and Sciences, the School of Nursing and Health Sciences, as well as the Center for Civic Engagement, the Center for the Environment, and the Diversity and Inclusion Center. The program also integrates the expertise of members of the community through an advisory board, class placements with community organizations, guest speakers, and team teaching with local experts.
The Master of Community Leadership is a program targeted for graduate students with the ability to connect different areas of study in order to achieve a more profound understanding of the topics. Students that pursue this program should be interested in how international issues affect their community and be capable of researching information to back up their points of view.
Students have the option of choosing from one of the following specialized tracks:
- Comprehensive: For students who would like to manage and lead organizations.
- International: Prepares students for leadership in addressing international issues or community level work in other countries.
- Arts and Culture:For students who want to help integrate the cultural organizations into the community, the only program of its kind in Northern Utah.
