Spanish is the most common language in the U.S. after English, and it?s the official language in more than 20 countries worldwide. Majoring in Spanish allows you to develop practical language and critical thinking skills that are applicable to any career field.

The Spanish major is interdisciplinary and includes study of the culture, history and geography of the countries where Spanish is spoken. In addition to courses focusing on grammar, composition and conversation, Spanish classes examine topics including:

  • Hispanic musical heritage
  • Spanish culture through film
  • Spanish civilization
  • Caribbean culture
  • Women in Hispanic literature
  • Masterpieces of Hispanic literature

Eligibility & Entry Requirement

Academic Requirements:

  • Submit official transcripts of high school and other universities attended
  • Applicants must have completed following courses: 4 units of English; 2 units of foreign languages; 2 units of lab science; 3 units of Mathematics; 3 units of Social Science
  • One letter of recommendation from teacher or counselor
  • Submit a personal essay within 500 words
  • Submit English Language Proficiency test scores

  • TOEFL; minimum 80 in ibt
  • IELTS: minimum 6.5
  • Duolingo: minimum 100
