The Finance program offered by Pamplin School of Business?at the?University of Portland is?designed to provide specialized skills for those interested in careers in corporate finance, investments, financial analysis, and/or risk management.?
Students will graduate with well-developed competencies in evaluating complex financial problems, employing statistical and econometric techniques, and recommending financial solutions to stakeholders. The Master of Science in Finance degree program has a STEM designation. STEM refers to science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. The The U.S. government recognizes expertise in the data science fields, such as this degree in finance, as an important driver of innovation and job creation. It is also a designation that is highly regarded by employers.
The program is a 30 credit-hour, or ten semester class, Master of Science degree. The specific focus on finance allows for more flexibility in course work than an accounting/finance dual degree. The coursework overlaps tightly with material covered in the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) licensing exam.
Degree Options
Students can choose one of two programs within the MSF degree: a thesis option or a non-thesis option.
- Thesis Option - 27 hours beyond the common body of knowledge; 3-hour thesis course
- Non-thesis Option - 30 hours beyond the common body of knowledge

Eligibility & Entry Requirement
Academic Requirements:
- Applicants must have completed bachelors degree from an accredited university
- Submit official transcripts of all previous education completed
- Submit GMAT/GRE scores
- Submit letters of recommendation
