Interdisciplinary investigations between studio areas and other departments are encouraged. Pedagogy is broad, with equal emphasis on representation and abstraction. Students are expected to develop the discipline with the focus and commitment necessary to achieve excellence.
The areas that make up Studio Art at Dartmouth consist of architecture, drawing, painting, photography, printmaking and sculpture.
The Studio Art major consists of 10 courses. The Department offers courses in architecture, drawing, painting, photography, printmaking and sculpture. Drawing I is prerequisite to courses in architecture, painting, photography, and printmaking, and to upper level drawing and sculpture courses. There are no prerequisites for Drawing I, Sculpture I, or Special Topics.
Since class size is limited and enrollments are heavy, Drawing I should be completed as early as possible.
Eligibility & Entry Requirement
Academic Requirements:
- Submit secondary school report with transcripts, school profile and counselor evaluation
- Submit a Dartmouth writing supplement material
- Submit two teacher evaluations
- Submitting SAT/ACT score is optional
- Applicants are strongly recommended to provide peer recommendations
- Submit English Language Proficiency test scores
English Language Requirements:
- TOEFL: minimum 100 in ibt;
- IELTS: minimum 7.0
- Duolingo: minimum 130
