The aim of Dartmouth's one-year Masters Program is to provide the tools necessary for Ph.D. study or for careers in teaching and international studies. Each student's program of study is individually designed in consultation with a faculty advisor.

The curriculum stresses intensive language study, broad-based theory and methodology courses, research tools, directed independent work, and pedagogical training. It is designed to consolidate and deepen students' undergraduate research experience and to provide the necessary background for advanced scholarly work.

Academic Requirements:

  • Applicants must have completed a bachelors degree from an accredited university
  • Applicant should demonstrate strong undergraduate record in any major in humanities field
  • Submit official transcripts of all previous education completed
  • Official transcripts must contain course by course evaluation and should be evaluated by a NACES accredited agency
  • Applicant should have fluent reading, writing and speaking skills in any one foreign language
  • Submit an essay highlighting why you want to pursue graduate work in this field and your plans at the university
  • Submit a writing sample of 10-15 pages
  • Submit three letters of recommendation from a current employer, professor or supervisor
  • Submit English Language Proficiency test scores
