The Pomona Math Department?s philosophy is that mathematics is an exciting field that offers something for everybody. The department has created a supportive, inclusive community through mentoring groups and by promoting collaborative work.
Beyond calculus and linear algebra, you?ll take courses in algebra, analysis, topology/geometry, modeling, and statistics. Majors then focus on a track in pure mathematics, applied mathematics, general mathematics and statistics. The senior exercise involves directed research, under the supervision of faculty. Many students do summer research.
Programs range from the usual B.A. to a combined B.A.-M.A. program offered with Claremont Graduate University (in either mathematics or in mathematics education).
Eligibility & Entry Requirement
Academic Requirements:
- Submit official transcripts of high school and other education completed
- Submit school report form and a letter of recommendation from counselor
- Submit two letter of recommendation from teacher of core academic subjects: English, math, science, social science, foreign language
- Submitting SAT/ACT score is optional
- Submit an academic interest statement (150 words), short response essay (150 words) and long response essay (250 words)
- Submit English Language Proficiency test scores
English Language Requirements:
- TOEFL: minimum score of 100 in ibt; 627 in PBT
- IELTS: minimum score of 7.0
- Duolingo: minimum 130
