All facets of the construction process are studied, including construction materials and methods, management and building systems as well as elements of structural design. Both the public and private sectors are studied from the time the project is conceptualized until it is turned over to an owner.

The program combines an emphasis on construction management with the principles of engineering. This degree includes within its core of construction management courses important components of mathematics, physics and engineering to give the construction manager a variety of technical, analytical, organizational and communication skills. Students will have an understanding of basic structural analysis and design. Additional technical skills are developed as they relate to project layout (surveying) and materials testing, including training for The American Concrete Institute certification as Field Inspector (Level 1) of Fresh Concrete, OSHA 10 Certification, Certified Surveying Technician (CST) and the NICET Soils Level 1 Certification.

Graduates will be able to specify project methods and materials, perform cost estimates and financial analyses and manage construction activities. Students will be able to plan, design, inspect and direct residential, commercial, infrastructure and transportation projects. Graduates of this program are prepared for immediate employment in every phase of construction. Most graduates will be hired by governmental agencies, consulting engineers, architects, contractors and developers. Occupational titles include: civil engineering technologist, soil technologist, construction technologist, foundation technologist, municipal engineering assistant, specifications writer ? construction, structural design technologist, structural investigator, construction manager, superintendent, assistant project manager, safety director, field inspector.
