On April 12, 2022, Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and his counterpart Antony Blinken visited the Howard University campus in Washington DC to converse on ways to scale up educational ties between the US and India.
Highlights of the Discussion between Blinken and Jaishankar
During the discussion at Howard University, Antony Blinken stated that he wanted to learn from India’s Independence movement and apply the same to US racial justice struggle. According to the US Secretary of State, cultural and educational ties between the two countries grow stronger each year. Around 2000,000 Indian students are enrolled in US Universities, contributing to skill development and intercultural understanding.

During India-US 2+2 Ministerial Dialogue, it was announced that a working group on Education and Skill Development will be set up. The Group will bring together higher education institutions in India and US for cooperative research projects.
Dr Anthony Wutoh, Provost and Chief Academic Officer, Howard University commented that it is only right that Howard University was selected to commemorate the educational and cultural ties that form the base of the strong bilateral connection between India and the US.

Dr Wutoh also added that since the turn of the century, Howard University has opened its doors to Indian and Indian-American students and Faculty. Vice President Kamala Harris is one of the most prominent Indian-American Alumni at Howard University.
Blinken reported that he was happy to speak to Dr S. Jaishankar and Lee Satterfield regarding joint efforts in the field of education and skill development by both educators and students of the two countries. He later tweeted that interpersonal relationship is one of the primary aspects of the bond between India and the US.

Jaishankar also tweeted in response that he was delighted to participate in the discussion with Blinken. He added that forming a Working Group on Education and Skill Development will improve India-US Partnership.
