IIT Dharwad Ph.D. Eligibility Criteria

For Engineering Discipline

  • Candidates must be a graduate of M. Tech./ equivalent degree OR B. Tech/ equivalent with 60% marks (55% for SC/ ST candidates) or a CGPA of 6.0/ 10 (5.5 for SC/ ST candidates).
  • If a candidate is unable to meet the graduate requirements, he/ she must have a Valid GATE score or Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) of CSIR/ UGC or DST INSPIRE Fellowship.

For Science Discipline

  • Candidates must be a graduate of M. Phil/ equivalent OR M. Sc./ equivalent OR MTech/ equivalent OR B. Tech or equivalent with 60% marks (55% for SC/ ST candidates) or a CGPA of 6.0/ 10 (5.5 for SC/ ST candidates).
  • If a candidate is unable to meet the graduate requirements, he/ she must have a Valid GATE scorecard or Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) of CSIR/ UGC/ NBHM/ DBT/ ICAR/ ICMR / ICPR or DST INSPIRE Fellowship.

For Humanities Discipline

  • Candidate should have M. Phil/ equivalent OR M. A./ equivalent with 55% marks (50% for SC/ ST candidates) or a CGPA of 5.5/ 10 (5.0 for SC/ ST candidates).
  • If a candidate is unable to meet the graduate requirements, he/ she must have a Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) of UGC or another equivalent fellowship or UGC-NET Lectureship (LS).

IIT Dharwad Ph.D. Selection Criteria

  • The IIT Dharwad Ph.D. selection process is highly competitive and involves two rounds of interviews. Only eligible applicants will be permitted to participate in the selection process, which is designed to evaluate the applicant's research potential, academic background, and motivation for pursuing a Ph.D. in Various Disciplines.
  • The first round of the interview process will be conducted in online mode and will consist of a detailed discussion of the applicant's research interests and academic background. This round is aimed at evaluating the applicant's research potential and identifying candidates who have a strong foundation in their Selected Disciplines based on fundamental questions from the syllabus.
  • The second round of the interview process will be conducted in person at IIT Dharwad and will provide shortlisted candidates with the opportunity to interact with our faculty members, tour IIT Dharwad, and gain an in-depth understanding of our research programs. This round is designed to assess the applicant's research skills, scientific reasoning, and suitability for our Ph.D. program.

Students must get at-least CC grade or 7.0 CPI in every registered credit course.
