Candidates seeking admission to the full-time NIT Andhra Pradesh PhD program shall fulfill the following eligibility criteria:
- Candidates must have qualified in GATE or UGC/ CSIR-NET / UGC / INSPIRE in the relevant disciplines.
Engineering Department
- Master’s or MS (by research) degree in Engineering/Technology in the relevant branch.
- Minimum of 60% aggregate marks or CGPA > 6.4/10 in UG and PG for general candidates.
- 5% relaxation will be provided to SC/ST/PWD category students.
Students with only a bachelor’s degree can apply and the conditions required are:
- A valid GATE scores.
- Bachelor’s in Engineering/Technology with at least CGPA of 8.0/10 or 75% of marks under UR and OBC category and at least CGPA of 7.5/10 or 70% for candidates under SC/ST category.

NIT Andhra Pradesh PhD Admission Criteria
Candidates will be selected for the NIT Andhra Pradesh PhD program through an institute entrance test and an interview, as per the discretion of the department.

- Coursework: A full-time PhD scholar should complete the coursework in the first three semesters after admission.
- Audit Courses: In addition to the whole program requirements, a full-time NIT AP PhD candidate shall complete one of the following audit courses: Research Methodologies, English for Scientific Communication, History of Science and Technology, Professional Ethics

- Comprehensive Examination: Every PhD student is required to submit his research proposal at least by the time of the Comprehensive Examination. The DSC will assess the proposal at the time of the Comprehensive Examination and communicate the recommendations for approval to the Dean - Academic.
- Assessment: After the approval of the research work proposal, assessments are made periodically, through seminars.
- Synopsis Submission: Prior to the pre-synopsis seminar, the scholar is required to have at least two papers. The synopsis must be admitted at least one month before submitting the thesis. It must be of a maximum of 15 pages, including references of research work, with the following certificates.

- Viva-Voce: If the examiners are unanimous in recommending for the award of the degree on the basis of the thesis without any modification. This case is clear for the final requirement of viva-voice.
- Award of The Degree: On the recommendations of the viva-voce board, the senate shall decide whether the candidate should be recommended to the board of governors for the award of the degree of Doctor of Philosophy.

NIT Andhra Pradesh PhD Institute Fellowship
NIT Andhra Pradesh PhD program provides scholars research assistantship under various reputed government and non-government organizations.
- All full-time scholars admitted under the Institute fellowship are eligible for the scholarship.
- The period of institute scholarship should not exceed 5 years for a person who is employed in the institute temporarily under a project or a scheme or who enjoys an outside scholarship other than QIP/TF.
- The tenure of the research scholarship is 3 years counted from the date of joining.
- The initial award shall be released for one year and then renewed from year to year up to the third year, subject to satisfactory progress.
- The Institute Research scholar is required to carry out his research work regularly under the guidance of the supervisor, without any interruption during the period of the scholarship.
