• Course Structure: The coursework of all M.Sc specializations is divided into 4 semesters each of 6 months duration. All courses include core courses, electives, project work, viva-voce and seminars. Core Courses are mostly taught in first and second semesters of the program while candidates are given the choices to choose from elective courses from third semester onwards. Project, Seminars and Viva-Voce are taught in the final semester of the course. Apart from these, labs are to be performed in M.Sc Physics and M.Sc Mathematics.

• Examinations: Examinations are conducted during and at the end of each semester. These are called midterm and end term examinations. Candidates must pass all mid term and end term examinations in order to achieve the degree award at the end of the course.
• Evaluation: Evaluation is done on the basis of candidate’s marks in each semester. Internal assessments, Quiz, Lab Works, Practicals, Viva-Voce, Seminars, Assignments etc are also taken into consideration for the evaluation process.
• Attendance: Candidates should maintain a minimum attendance of 70-75% in both theory and practical classes, failing in which candidates would not be permitted to appear in end term examinations.

IIT JAM Exam Pattern

• IIT JAM will be conducted online as a computer based test.
• IIT JAM will have a total of 60 questions carrying 100 marks.
• The entrance exam contains 3 sections, all the sections will be compulsory for the candidates.
• Section A will consist of 30 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs), section B will contain 10 Multiple Select Questions (MSQs) and in section C, there will be 20 Numerical Answer Type (NAT) questions.
• The total time duration given to the candidates will be 3 hours, no extra time will be given to anyone.
• There will be negative marking in section A only.
• The exam will have questions from the subjects like Biotechnology, Chemistry, Mathematics, Mathematical Statistics, Economics and Physics.
