Economics Candidate must have passed M.A./M.Phil. Economics with 55% marks.
English A candidate must have passed M.A./M.Phil. English with 55% marks/M.Phil.
Sociology

A Master’s Degree in Sociology of Periyar University or any other University recognized by the Syndicate.
Tamil A Master’s Degree in Tamil of Periyar University or any other University recognized by the Syndicate.
Biochemistry Candidate must have passed M.Sc. Biochemistry with 55% of marks.
Biotechnology Candidate must have post graduation in Life sciences subjects (Agricultural science / Animal Sciences/Aquaculture/Biochemistry/Biotechnology /Botany / Entomology / Environ mental Science/Eco biotechnology / Fishery Biology/Food Science/Gene Biotechnology/ Genetic Engineering /Immunology/Immunotechnology/Industrial Biotechnology/Home Science/ Marine Biology/Marine Biotechnology /Medical Biotechnology/ Medical Science/ Microbiology/ Molecular Biology/Plant Science/Nano Biotechnology/Pharmacy/ Veterinary Science /Bio Physics/ Bio medical Science/Zoology and or an equivalent degree.)
Botany  A pass in M.Sc. with Botany/Plant Biology/Plant Biotechnology or Life sciences as main subject.
Chemistry M.Sc. Degree in Chemistry with 55% of marks / M.Phil. Degree.
Computer Science Postgraduate degree in Computer Science/Computer Applications/ Software Science/ Computer Communication/ Information Technology and Management/ Information Technology/ M.E./ M.Tech. Computer Science/ Information Technology with 55% of marks.
Environmental Studies

Candidates who have qualified for Postgraduate Degree in any of life sciences programmes of this University or any other University recognized by the Syndicate as equivalent thereto shall be eligible

Food Sciences and Nutrition P.G. Degree in Food Science and Nutrition, Food and Nutrition, Food Technology, Food Processing, Food Engineering, Agriculture, Home Science, Biochemistry and Catering Science and Technology approved by the Association of Indian Universities.
Geology Candidate must have M.Sc. Geology / M.Sc. Applied Geology/M.Sc. Earth Science/Marine Geology.
Library and Information Science A candidate who has qualified for Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science or an equivalent thereto. For the purpose of admission to Ph.D programme, a candidate should have obtained a Master’s Degree with not less than 55% of marks or an equivalent grade.
Mathematics Candidates must have passed M.Sc. Mathematics with 55% marks.
Microbiology Candidates who have qualified for Postgraduate Degree (any biological science) of this University or equivalent Degree with 55% of marks.
Physics Candidate must have M.Sc. (Physics) with 55% of marks.
Psychology Candidate must have  Master’s Degree in Psychology from any recognized University with 55% of marks.
Zoology Candidate must have a M.Sc. Zoology/Biochemistry/ Wild life Biology/Animal Science/Animal Biotechnology any other Degree related to Zoology/Life Sciences approved by the Syndicate of Periyar University.
Textiles and Apparel Design Candidate must have master’s degree in Textiles and Fashion related discipline.
Energy Studies Candidates must have passed M.Sc. Energy Studies, Physics, Chemistry, Biological Sciences.
Commerce Candidates must have passed M.Com. or M.Com. (CA) with minimum 55% marks.
Education Candidate must have passed M.Ed. with 55 % marks from a recognized university.

Periyar University Ph.D Reservation 2023 

SC/ST candidates are exempted from the payment of the Application/Registration fee for any one of the programmes. For additional programmes applied, the application fee should be paid. The photocopy of the community certificate should be enclosed along with the application. Students should write their name, complete address and programme for which applied, in block letters on the reverse of the demand draft/challan.
