Admission to IIT Bombay’s postgraduate programs requires candidates to take the GATE exam in February, with results announced in March. After receiving the results, applicants must fill out the application form on IIT Bombay's website and register on the COAP portal, as seat offers are made exclusively through COAP. Shortlisted candidates can secure their seat by accepting and freezing offers; otherwise, they can attempt spot rounds in July, depending on seat availability.
The faculty at IIT Bombay are renowned, many having backgrounds from top-tier institutions like Cambridge and MIT, and they are readily available to assist students. The first semester fee is approximately 57,000 rupees, with a mess refund of around 15,000 rupees at semester’s end. Students receive a stipend of about 75,000 rupees, which helps manage fees and expenses in subsequent semesters. Placements at IIT Bombay are excellent, with an average package of approximately 16.5 lakhs and over 90% job placement rate.
Some students pursue further studies at prestigious universities. M.Tech students qualifying the GATE receive a stipend of 12,400 rupees from MHRD. SBI and Canara Bank offer loan options, and several scholarships are available, including the Foundation for Excellence (FFE) which can cover all fees for eligible students.
