IIT Bombay organizes Asia's largest cultural fest, MOOD INDIGO where more than 2 lakh people come. There are many very large fests like Techfest, E-summit, etc. Usually, they are conducted in December. IIT Bombay has a very beautiful and large library where you can get many references and books of different genres. The classroom infrastructure is very nice. All classes are equipped with high-speed Wi-Fi and ACs. Sports and extracurricular activities are very nice. there are many clubs and competitions for all this stuff. InSync, SilverScreen, Symphony etc are some examples of it.

Facilities provided in the hostel room is quite good. Size of room is ambient for a student. 1st, 2nd and 3rd year rooms are double sharing. In 4th year students are availed with single sharing. Mess food is of good quality. Menu is prepared by Mess Council which is a student body itself. Registration process for hostel is quite smooth. You just need to submit a couple of varification documents and that's all.

Room has a bed, a cupboard and a table that has a drawer. They provide you a lock. Menu is pretty inclusive of all states of India. Breakfast has both the options, veg or non veg. Registration for hostel goes hand in hand with registration for college, you don't have to do much.

IITB and ME

4.7Helpful
The Hostels where sophies and thirdies reside are old and the infrastructure was before 2000s so it has a different vibe than newer hostels. Certainly due to an increase in number of students as compared to before 2000s has led to overpopulated hostels, also The buildings have a pests problem (PS:Fed up of seeing cockroaches and lizards around my hostel) Asides from that we have pretty decent facilities like air conditioned study rooms at every hostel{The go to place for a quiet environment}, a common room, lounge room{where we see IND VS PAK cricket matches}, tech room, music room, GYM as well!! Hostel is very affordable after considering all these facilities they provide! they also clean the premises and toilets on a day-to-day basis. Hostel 6 is the BEST{If you neglect those pesky little ants and cockroaches and lizards}!!!!! ONE BIG PLUS POINT of being conjested is that you're never alone, there's always friends and people around to keep you cheered up!

Which is the best hostel in IIT Bombay and why?

Veda BurmanPriyanka DasStudied Marketing at Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies, Mumbai (2019)

My brother had the pleasure of staying at hostels 9, 16, and now 13 in chronological order. However, he claimed not one hostel had the complete facilities one expects in a hostel. I have described each hostel in a few pointers

Hostel 9

  • Extremely small room difficult for even 2 people to share
  • The best food in the entire institute is served in this hostel
  • It has many facilities like a pool, a small footer field, basketball court, table tennis and makes your leisure time great

Hostel 16

  • This hostel has some of the best rooms in the entire institute. The rooms are double occupancy but can easily be shared by more people.
  • If you are lucky enough to be allotted the 6th floor or above, you can get a spectacular view of Hiranandani.
  • The food is not very good

Hostel 13

  • The room is usually for PG or DD students
  • The rooms are single occupancy and are decked with decent facilities
  • The food in the Mess is neither too good nor too bad.
  • The hostel has a wide range of extracurricular facilities. There is a TV room that can accommodate around 70–80 people.
  • This hostel is most coveted because of the spectacular view of the Powai lake and the Hiranandani it offers.

  • Network: You will have 24*7 access to Wi-Fi in your hostel and throughout the campus.
  • Sports: There are a number of sports facilities for sports freaks at IIT Bombay like dancing, swimming, football, basketball, running, gym, and much more.
  • Mood Indigo: The most glittering aspect of IIT Bombay is probably the amazing 4-day festival; Mood Indigo, Asia's 4th largest fest. In addition, there is a 3-day tech fest as well
  • Library: You will have access to the IITB library, where you can borrow books and access e-resources.
  • Food: You will have access to a mess (canteen) in your hostel, where you can get food at a subsidized rate. IIT Bombay also has some night canteens to satisfy your midnight cravings.
  • Campus: The campus is lush green and the overall ambiance is refreshing and surreal.

There are additional facilities like stationery shops or photostats etc.

How are the hostel rooms at IIT Bombay?

Pratik GandhiB.Tech. CSE, IIT Bombay

IIT Bombay has 3 kinds of hostel facilities for undergrads

    1. Fresher year hostel - Hostel 15-16: In the rooms of these hostels, the kitchens are too small and you just have your own bare space. Some rooms have an additional free space in your room while others have more than enough space for you and your roommate.
    2. Senior Hostel (for the rest male undergraduates): The rooms are a bit better than Fresher hostels with an additional store room. However, this store room is very small in most cases. There is an additional space apart from your own room and your roommates.
  • Senior Hostel (for the rest female undergrads): Girls' hostel rooms have the maximum space and the best facilities.

At the end of the day, the size of your hostel room hardly matters in your college life. You get habitual after a few months and it becomes the smallest issue.
