Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST), Thiruvananthapuram is a government-aided institute and deemed university for the study and research of space science. The institute offers admission to under-graduate programmes and dual degree programmes every year
Candidates seeking admission to B.Tech./Dual Degree courses should register through the online application process from the official IIST website and pay the required processing fee through the generated challan. Applications submitted online only will be considered for processing under any circumstances.
Eligible candidates will be required to appear for JEE (Mains) and JEE (Advanced) in order to get admission to IIST B.Tech./Dual Degree programmes. Final selection for admission will be done on the basis of marks scored by the candidate in both the exams. Check IIST Admission
IIST B.Tech Eligibility Criteria
Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech.) – 4 years
- Aerospace Engineering – 60 seats
- Avionics – 60 seats
Dual Degree (B.Tech. + M.S./M.Tech.) – 5 years
- B.Tech.(Physics) + M.S.(Astronomy & Astrophysics) – 20 seats
- B.Tech.(Physics) + M.S.(Earth System Sciences) – 20 seats
- B.Tech.(Physics) + M.S.(Solid State Physics) – 20 seats
- B.Tech.(Physics) + M.Tech. (Optical Engineering) – 20 seats
Eligibility:
Qualifying Examination
- Candidates should have passed their Qualifying Examination (10+2 or Equivalent), with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics (PCM).
- Candidates must have secured at least 70% aggregate in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics (PCM) in the qualifying examination. Those belonging to SC/ST/PD category should require an aggregate of at least 60% marks in the qualifying examination
Citizenship & Date of Birth
- Candidates should be of Indian nationality and must be born on or after October 1, 1991
- Candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST) and Persons with Disabilities (PD) categories must be born on or after October 1, 1986
JEE(Main) & JEE(Advanced) Examination
- Candidates must appear for the Joint Entrance Examination (Main) conducted by Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) to qualify for Joint Entrance Examination (Advanced), conducted by IITs.
- Candidate must secure the minimum prescribed category-wise marks in JEE (Advanced) as given below:

IIST B.Tech Admission Process
Candidates will be selected for admission to B.Tech/Dual Degree programme on the basis of their scores in JEE (Main) and JEE (Advanced).
Notes
The qualifying examination should be any of the following:
- HSC (10+2) examination conducted by Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), Council for Indian School Certificate Examination (ISCE) etc.
- Intermediate or two-year Pre-University examination conducted by a recognized Board/University
- Any Public School/Board/University examination in India or abroad recognized as equivalent to the 10+2 system by the (AIU)
- Vocational Higher Secondary Examination
- Senior Secondary School Examination conducted by the National Institute of Open Schooling with at least 5 subjects
- Final examination of the two-year course of the Joint Services Wing of the National Defence Academy
- General Certificate Education (GCE) examination (London / Cambridge /Sri Lanka) at the Advanced (A) level
- High School Certificate Examination of the Cambridge University or International Baccalaureate Diploma of the International Baccalaureate Office, Geneva
- In case the relevant qualifying examination is not a public examination, the candidate should have passed at least one public (Board or Pre-University) examination at an earlier level
Reservation Process
Limited seats are reserved for candidates belonging to certain categories as per applicable rules of the Government of India.

How to Apply
Candidates should register for B.Tech/Dual degree admissions through the online admission portal available at the official IIST website.
Upon successful submission of all the relevant details, candidate must download and take the print-out of the generated “Bank Challan” for remitting the required application fee.
Candidate should submit the fee in the bank with the help of “Challan” and obtain the transaction details.
Enter the bank transaction details using Candidate’s login and upload the receipt of bank challan in order to complete the registration process.
