Karnatak University, Dharwad (KUD) traces its roots back to 1st March, 1950. It is the second oldest university of the state. The university has been recognized as “Potential of Excellence” by University Grants Commission. It has its campuses at Haveri, Belgaum, Dharwad, Bijapur and Gadag. It has 249 colleges, affiliated under it. Under its 5 departments- Science, Arts, Commerce, Law and Education, Karnatak University (KUD), Dharwad provides 50 PG courses, 4 Advanced Diploma courses, 11 Certificate, 26 M.Phil and 42 Ph.D courses. For the optimum benefits of the students of the state, it offers a number of Under-Graduate and Post-Graduate courses under the Directorate of Distance Education also.

To provide skill training to the fresh graduates and diploma holders in the field of Engineering and Technology, the university at its Dharwad campus has initiated National Apprenticeship Training Scheme under the MHRD of the Government of India. Every year, Karnatak University admits young and bright scholars for the research work. It offers 42 Ph.D regular courses for which the necessary detail is given below. The admission to the Ph.D programmes is based on the written test of 100 marks. All the questions will be MCQs type. The candidates who qualify the written test have to appear for the Personal Interview round. The candidates, who have qualified GATE, NET, SLET, JRF or are FIP/QIP fellows, need not appear for the written test.
The candidates who wish to apply for the Doctoral courses need to fill the application form, available at the official web portal of the university. The payment is made through online mode. For the future reference, candidates are advised to take the print of the application form and the payment slip.
For the students who cannot attend the classes regularly, the university runs separate distance education courses under the Directorate of Distance Education. The Under-Graduate Distance courses which are for the duration of 3 years, offered by the university are given below:
