Unlike CAT, RAT (Research Aptitude Test) is not a unified exam. Evert IIM conducts its own admission process for FPM and thus the pattern of RAT varies from IIM to IIM. One of the patterns is termed as minor RAT followed at IIMB and at a few other IIMs. The RAT consists of different types of CAT questions including questions on verbal skills, logical reasoning, quantitative etc. However, the quantity of questions is less and the questions are distributed differently. Questions are designed to determine minimum eligibility requirements and are not meant for elimination thus the overall test is not too difficult.
It's important to note that the RAT pattern for each of the IIMs changes every year. Though some preparation definitely needs to be made for these exams, I would not suggest giving more time to prepare for interviews than the written exam.
For GEM, the CAT percentiles required to get an interview call from IIM Blackis, FMS, SP Jain, JBIMS, and MDI Gurgaon are
It’s important to know that these figures are based on trends and not on actual data so you will find exceptions everywhere. Moreover, it’s better you don’t waste time analyzing the CAT cutoff and start preparing for the same.
For the PGP, PGP-PPM and PGP-BA courses of IIM Bangalore, the overall CAT 2023 cutoff is 99 percentile (for general category). As for the sectional cutoff, it is 80 percentile for all the three courses, in VARC, QA as well as DILR. As for SC candidates, the cutoff is 70 percentile overall, and it is 70 percentile for each of the sections as well.
You can check the overall and sectional cutoffs for other categories as well.
Yes, IIMs do have a certain intake of freshers every year. Anyone without work experience can try their luck at IIM Bangalore as 20-30% of the batch comprises freshers. The reason for such an intake of freshers is that Recruiters from the Marketing and Finance sectors usually prefer a fresher given the nature of the jobs and roles offered. In the Marketing sector, you have to first go through Sales roles which are suitable for a fresher only. Even in Finance, the roles require a lot of working hours which might not be possible for someone with good work experience. Unless you have worked Sales/Marketing or have CA/CFA, recruiters prefer freshers only for such jobs.
This rule is applied somewhat similarly to other IIMs the only difference being the weightage given to different criteria.
If you are a fresher with average academic records, then switch to IIM Calcutta because Bangalore focuses a lot on academic performance and this might lower your chances of admission.
The total course fee of PGP at IIM Bangalore is Rs. 24,50,000. Apart from this, a caution deposit (general) of Rs. 15000, and a caution deposit (hostel) of Rs. 5000 is payable at the time of admission. Also, a mess advance of Rs. 30000 is payable each term.
The course fee of Rs 24.5 Lakhs consists of Tuition fee, Library fee, Internet charge, Case Permission Royalty, Course Material charge, Hostel Room Rent and Service charge, Medical Insurance fee, Personal Accident Insurance fee and Alumni Activity fee. The fee does not include Service Tax or any other form of taxes. If made applicable by law, taxes will be collected from the students separately at the prescribed rate.
Accommodations are available for PGP students, but one can opt for living outside the campus in the second year.
This is the total cost of pursuing PGP from IIM Bangalore.
IIML is clearly superior to MDI in non-marketing specializations in terms of placement. However, IIM I, K, and MDI are generally equal in terms of placements, except for a few banks that specifically seek out the IIM tag at I&K. If you work equally hard at either campus and all other operational factors are constant, you will likely end up in a similar position whether you choose MDI or I or K. However, as mentioned before, IIML still has the edge and requires more effort if you're in the finance or consulting field.
If you're interested in MDI, it's worth noting that recent placement reports show more and more prestigious finance and consulting companies are visiting the campus. This has helped MDI deliver well-rounded placements. So, if you're willing to put in the work, MDI could be a good option for you.
