First thing any engineering aspirant considers while choosing a branch in Engineering is placement aspect and the course very well caters to it. A few questions which arise when admissions to engineering colleges commence include the branch in demand, highest paid engineering graduates and others such. Apart from this palcement criteria, there are some other parameters which should be considered while choosing a discipline like- what are the research opportunities, what is scope of career growth etc.
Mechanical Engineering is the evergreen branch of engineering. Market scenario and demand of engineering graduates change every year but the demand of mechanical engineering degree will never be obsolete. Mechanical engineering graduates can find placements in almost every sector, right from construction sector to steel industry and from automobile to software.
Following are the sub disciplines that are associated with mechanical engineering:

Candidates willing to apply for Mechanical Engineering degree need to fulfil the below-mentioned eligibility criteria.
There are about 4300 engineering colleges in India. Admission to most of the engineering institutes is done on the basis of one of the several entrance tests conducted at national and state level. Some private institutes also conduct their own entrance test. However, some institutes also offer direct admission on the basis of merit in qualifying exam or on the basis of management quota.
Basic admission process in different engineering institutes is explained below.
10+2 with PCM (Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics) is the basic requirement to take admission in any BE/B.Tech program. Percentage required in qualifying exam is 50% for most of the engineering institutes. For some top prestigious institutes like IITs, NITs or BITS the percentage criteria extends to 60%.
Following is the criteria for admission through different modes:
Direct Admission- Engineering institutes which offer direct admission have certain criteria for admission. Either they offer admission on the basis of merit in qualifying exam i.e. 10+2 or equivalent or there are some management seats reserved in private engineering colleges. For management quota the fee structure is generally higher than others.
Direct Admission for Diploma holders- Various engineering colleges in India also offer direct admission to ITI diploma holders in second year of the course.
Entrance Exams- There are several entrance exams in India at national and state level. Some private institutes like SRM University, BITS Pilani, VIT University etc conduct their separate entrance test. Some main national level and state level engineering entrance tests are below-
