TMBU Ph.D: Fees 2025, Course Duration, Dates, Eligibility

Latest Update: The university has started its admissions for regular and distance learning for the 2020-21 session. However, the Ph.D. applications are not out yet. Looking at the previous trends, Ph.D. entrance exams are likely to be held in January.

TMBU offers Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degrees in Commerce, Core Sciences, Humanities & Social Sciences, and interdisciplinary areas. TMBU offers a total of 21 doctoral courses under its Ph.D. programs. The course work is divided into 6 semesters or 3 years.

• The Ph.D. program is specialized in Commerce, Bengali, Economics, English, Gandhian Studies, Geography, Hindi, History, Persia, Philosophy, Botany, Chemistry, Political Sciences, Psychology, Rural economics, Sanskrit, Urdu, Home Sciences – Food and Nutrition, Mathematics, Physics, and Zoology.
• The minimum requirement to apply for a Ph.D. at TMBU is a master’s degree in relevant subjects.
• However, an entrance examination PAT is conducted along with an interview for the selection process. The nature of the Ph.D. program is both full-time and part-time.
• The written entrance exam consists of Paper - I of 1-hour objective type and Paper – II of 2 hours essay type/ Subjective.

TMBU Ph.D Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must be qualified with one of the following:

• A master’s degree in Engineering/ Science/ Pharmacy/ Management/ Agriculture Science/ Humanities and Social Sciences with at least 60%.

OR

• Bachelor’s degree of minimum 4 years in Engineering/ Science/ Maths/ Pharmacy/ Agricultural Science/ Veterinary Sciences or equivalent with at least 70% marks.

Note: For part-time programs, in addition to the criteria mentioned above, they should have a minimum of 2 years of work experience after graduating.

TMBU Ph.D Admission Guidelines

Admission for the Ph.D. programs is entrance-based. TMBU conducts a written test.

• Visit the official website of TMBU .
• Click on Admissions > PhD > Apply Online.
• Click on the Application Link in the new message.
• Register yourself, and then log in with the credentials created.
• Fill in the application form.
• Pay the application fee.
• Applicants shortlisted for the test must bring along a printout of the admit card and duly submitted application form.
• Based on the merit achieved in the examination, the candidate will be called for an interview.
• Candidates shortlisted for the interview must bring the application form.
• Selected candidates will be informed within a short period after the interview.

TMBU Ph.D Course Details

The PhD programs at TMBU are offered in 21 specializations in four categories: Core sciences, Commerce, Humanities and Social Sciences, and interdisciplinary areas. The courses are as mentioned below:

• The entire Ph.D. is divided into 8 semesters. Students with a master’s degree have to secure at least 12 credits and those with a Bachelor’s degree have to secure 30. Also, they have to focus on electives along with their main papers.
• Once the students have completed their course work, they have to appear for the examination. It consists of a written and oral exam.
• The written exam consists of open-ended questions in the area of research that has been proposed to test the student’s analytical thinking.
• The oral exams focus on the background to start research and answers in the written exams.
