Bachelor of Arts [B.A] (Fashion)
Field of Study:
£16,500/Yr
You will learn how to challenge the conventions of contemporary fashion through design research and critical reflection, set against the study of traditional values of high craftsmanship that underpin garment-making such as haute couture and tailoring.
WeÕll help you to identify a personal fashion design philosophy through drawing and illustration, developing artisan craft skills, pattern cutting and constructing knitted fabrics and textiles. All this will be supported by contextual fashion studies and critical thinking to enable you to situate your own practice in the context of past and current design practice.
Recent graduates have progressed into a wide range of levels across the fashion industry at Designer level at, Richard Nicoll, Lanvin, Christopher Kane, Burberry, Eley Kishimoto, Ralph Lauren and River Island. This success can be attributed to our partnerships with industry to create a learning experience that is both inspiring and relevant.
You can also undertake further study at postgraduate level with a course such as our Design MA. If you decide to start up your own business, itÕs good to know that the combined turnover of our graduatesÕ start-up companies is higher than that of any other UK university.
Whatever you decide to do, youÕll have strong employability as a result of having acquired the characteristics of a Northumbria graduate. These include critical reflection and self-learning, collaboration and curiosity, and the ability to apply your knowledge to solve problems in ways that are sustainable and ethical.
