The Translation course from London Metropolitan UniversityÊoffers a wide range of language combinations paired with English, such as Arabic, Chinese, Dutch, French, German, Greek, Italian, Japanese, Polish, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish.

The need for qualified translators able to relay complex, specialised material has never been greater. This programme will equip you with all the skills needed to have a successful career in the translation industry. This master's degree has a vocational emphasis on specialist translation, focusing on areas such as law, politics, medicine, business, IT, media, subtitling and website and software localisation, as well as the translation of institutional documents.

You'll have the opportunity to translate using the following languages paired with English (translating into mother language): Arabic, Chinese (Mandarin), Dutch, French, German, Greek, Italian, Japanese, Polish, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish.

A substantial built-in part of the course is the work placement, which is an opportunity to gain hands-on professional experience with one of the many translation service providers in the UK and, whenever possible, with the United Nations and the European Union. These placements may lead to longer-term work opportunities for our graduates.

The University has strong links in the translaton industry, on this course you'll experience an annual visit to the EU Commission's Directorate General for Translation in Brussels. As well as the work placement, and trip to Brussels, you'll also listen to guest speakers who have a wealth of expeirence in translating.

After the course

This course will prepare you for roles in translation agencies, EU and international institutions, multinational companies, news corporations or government bodies.

Graduates of this course have become freelance translators or language teachers at secondary school level. Some graduates also go on to further advanced study with a PhD.
