Remarks

I applied to numerous colleges-Vasavi College of Engineering, CVR College of Engineering, Sreenidhi Institute of Science and Technology, to name a few. Of all the above colleges, I got confirmed admissions from Sreyas Institute of Engineering and Technology and CVR College of Engineering; however, I finally chose Sreyas over CVR for multiple reasons. Why I Chose Sreyas The balance between academic rigor and practical exposure was the prime reason to choose this college as per my career goals. What really appealed to me was the fact that the college was on lab work and projects, and I would get to experience that practically over here. Apart from that, modern infrastructure and the supportive faculty were the reasons for choosing Sreyas. One of the major factors that won my heart to Sreyas was its relatively smooth admission process and cut-offs, which gave me a clear-cut chance to get a seat in the branch of Computer Science Engineering that I was ready to pursue. Failures and What I Could Have Done Differently: I didn't get into Vasavi College or Sreenidhi Institute, as a result of mainly the entrance exams that they considered had more cutoffs than my rank in TS EAMCET. That rank was way behind their required cutoff, which significantly outplayed that of Sreyas. The reason why these ones didn't go well were due to an underestimation of competition for the top colleges and not adequate preparation for the entrance exam. Admission Process at Sreyas: The admission process at Sreyas is quite as per the regular process for most engineering colleges in the Telangana region. For B.Tech courses, eligibility criteria involve passing 10+2 with core subjects such as Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. For admission, TS EAMCET is taken in the instituition and the demand among the students for this exam is the most demanding. Other entrance exams are considered for a few seats, but the main one is TS EAMCET. Since the cutoffs for TS EAMCET at Sreyas is pretty low compared to top colleges, most students get a chance to join this college. The admission process was very smooth as counseling sessions were arranged to guide students through selecting branches and finalizing seats. Overall, Sreyas had just the right balance of academics, infrastructure, and accessibility when it comes to admission criteria. Other than some disappointment with other colleges, I will say this was a good choice for my engineering education.

Course Curriculum Overview

2

Sreyas Institute of Engineering and Technology provides a very rich and challenging academic experience. Usually, classes are about 60 to 80 students in number. The overall student strength in this Computer Science Engineering branch will be around 300-400. Over all, the college has different strengths at both boys and girls. It may have nearly a 3-1 ratio of boys versus girls and is male-dominated. Such a ratio does not however deny the active participation of female students in both academic and extracurricular activities. The diversity in the classroom also lies in the culture as there are students from various parts of India. Many of them belong to different states, mainly Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Maharashtra. This makes the learning process a rich one due to bringing diverse perspectives and diverse backgrounds. This mix forms a collaborative peer group, promoting peer learning and peer interaction in class discussions and group projects. It encourages class participation, and most of the times, the students receive marks given to them for active classroom participation. Most of the students genuinely come to classes, anticipating learning and trying to understand the material that is presented; however, some may be merely due to having to attend classes. Nonetheless, this very classroom environment is highly conducive to learning. Students take each other's part; meaningful discussions take place between students to enrich the learning process.

Internships Opportunities

1

Sreyas Institute of Engineering and Technology does not have a systematic summer internship programme; the students themselves take most of the internships without any facilitation by the college placement cell. Typically, personal networks, online job portals and referrals help in coming across such opportunities. Although the 100% placement rate cannot be sustained during the summer period, a positive number of students have alternative placement opportunities available to them. Paid internships are overall very effective, and the stipends vary but are mostly in the range of INR 5,000 to INR 20,000 per month depending on the company and position. Some students have also got stipends as high as INR 40,000, especially from more prominent companies. The internships that students prefer are always with good companies in the technology industry, like TCS and Infosys. Other startups are also popular for the exposure to learning. Usually, such companies hire in bulk, but most of the other internships are self-initiated and therefore representative of the active seek to gain hands-on experience. The engineering students generally have more favorable internship scenario compared with students from other subjects. This is due to a huge demand for talented people in the industry.(BLANK PHOTO UPLOADED)

Placement Experience

1.5

Final placements at Sreyas Institute of Engineering and Technology usually start during the last semester, which is around November, and may go on up to April. The placement may take four to five months to actually come to a conclusive end depending on the number of companies visiting and preparation level of the students. Even though a sizeable number of students are placed, under the rule, there is always an unplaced percentage, and that number usually runs in the tune of anywhere between 10-15%. Support to these students is provided through workshops, mock interviews, and resume-building sessions, besides, one-to-one mentorship, for improving employability. The placement cell also constantly tries to reach out to a much wider networking system and is often in touch with industries to get information relating to the potential job openings that may come up. The average CTC offered to students goes somewhere around INR 3,00,000 to INR 6,00,000 per year and the highest CTC goes up to INR 10,00,000 or more for the best-performing students. The lowest CTC usually touches around the amount of INR 2,00,000 per year. Preferred companies for engineers are usually tech giants like TCS, Infosys, Wipro, and a lot more. These companies are preferred for all reasons related to reputation, training, and career prospects. The average CTC from those offers would range between INR 3,50,000 to INR 6,00,000. Companies that hire in bulk are TCS, Wipro, and Cognizant. Average offers receive average of INR 3,00,000 to INR 5,00,000. The placement committee is crucial for coordination of the whole placement process, right from inviting companies to arranging interviews and facilitating communication concerning students as well as recruiters. Though most of the students opine that this whole process is transparent in general, some feel that there is a lack of clarity on the criteria for the selection of candidates, primarily concerning which students get priority for interviews or placement. Ideally, it attempts equity in general, but the method of communicating can be improved.(BLANK PICTURE UPLOADED AS NO DOCUMENTS AVAILABLE)

On average, 10-15 percent of the students get scholarships, and it varies according to the category and the scholarship scheme, which can be between INR 25,000 to INR 50,000 per year. These financial aids make education more affordable for students from underprivileged backgrounds, or those students who excel academically.

Campus Life

2

The campus infrastructure at Sreyas Institute of Engineering and Technology is strictly suited to various kinds of academic as well as co-curricular activities. The college provides numerous sporting facilities, including basketball, volleyball, and badminton courts and grounds for cricket and football. The college furnishes most of the basic equipment to be in place for these games; however, it advises the students to bring personal gear for them to take the best of them. Included in the campus facility is a gym with assorted apparatus for the sports and fitness enthusiast students who desire to remain healthy. The campus does not harbor a swimming pool; hence it deprives the students the opportunity of using this facility. The auditorium is massive and conducts seminars and cultural programs besides college events, while the library is well-stocked with several books and resources so that students can easily find what they need for study. The library hours are from early morning to evening, and students have access to multiple third-party databases which facilitate research and work on projects. There is quite a vast area of the college campus that prompts the students to venture out and enjoy some fresh outdoors, which in turn develops a very vibrant community. Since hostel accommodations are not available, the students generally travel from nearby hostels to the academic block. This is usually done by public transport or personal vehicles. The students are allowed to keep their private bikes or cars within the premises. It makes traveling pretty easy for them. While the relatives are allowed to meet the students at the campus, the overnight stay arrangement is primarily informal and depends on the students referring to the college policies for guest accommodation arrangements. Besides the central cafeteria, there are other food outlets available in the campus that offer a variety of meals to cater to as many tastes as possible. The campus also has a medical centre attended by qualified professionals with essential health services although it may be small in capacity and resources to the amount of demand available.Campus life at Sreyas Institute of Engineering and Technology is vibrant, engaging, while keeping a great balance of academics with extracurricular activities. After classes, there are various study groups or sports going on that really appeal to the strong sense of community of the students. The favorite hotspots for the students include local cafes, parks, and shopping areas. The locality is not usually unsafe, so it is safe for the students to roam around in the night without any sort of trouble. Fest and cultural activities organized on the campus throughout the year create a campus life, as all the students participate enthusiastically in activities and performances. Recent events have attracted a few celebrities, which usually adds the excitable atmosphere to the event. The college environment fosters teamwork and fraternity among the students, encouraging the development of friendships and bonding beyond the college campus. Overall, the campus life at Sreyas promotes and develops personal growth as well as academics, hence a satisfactory experience for the student.

Hostel Facilities

1.5

The Sreyas Institute of Engineering and Technology does not have hostels to accommodate students at present. This makes the students manage their lodging individually. Thus, students have to look out for individual rooms in close proximity. Since there are no hostels meant for students, the students cannot stay on campus. This will alter their daily routine and traveling pattern. Obviously, students need to cook for themselves without the hostel facilities. This means everyone will have a different dining experience because it all depends on personal choice and budget. This will also help students become independent, especially since they might need to consider their lifestyle in order to effectively fulfill their academic purposes.(BLANK PICTURE UPLOADED)Currently, hostel facilities for students are not provided in Sreyas Institute of Engineering and Technology and thus the accommodation has to be managed by students themselves. Quite a few students opt to stay in nearby apartments or shared housing with their peer group so that they can enjoy a very supportive social ambience while continuing their studies. This arrangement gives more flexibility and independence though it involves some challenges-such as finding acceptable living conditions and managing the household affairs. Since no hostels are available for the students, they have to bear the responsibility of their food on their own. Most of them would, however, seek the restaurants of nearby places, and some even use the facilities available in the rented house to make food. This would make the student much resourceful to survive on his/ her own and cater to their academic duties. Overall, campus hostel facilities are not available; therefore, students have to take personal responsibility in relation to their living arrangements by looking for adequate accommodations which suit them during college time.(BLANK PICTURE UPLOADED)

Exam Structure

Admission procedure to Sreyas Institute of Engineering and Technology begins in April itself when the declaration of TS EAMCET is in mid-May. Counseling begins in June during which students can enroll themselves and choose colleges as per their rank they secured. Ordinarily, results for seat allotment during counseling are declared in the last week of June and students who get the seats need to remit the admission fee within a fixed time frame. In general, classes start in the month of September to November, so there is significant prior preparation and orientation. There is also scope for management quota for those who may not qualify by the entrance exam; in this case, the entrance will open up for students on payment of more tuition fees. Thus, a calendar or schedule so well defined provides ample scope for pursuing admission processes coherently that students could be easily guided through their entire journey in Sreyas.

Faculty

Sreyas has designed its academic experience to be challenging as much as rewarding. The curriculum is holistic, as it covers not only the theoretical grounding of the subject but also the practical implementations that form the base of various applications. Though most students will likely find it coherent and manage, others are to face some struggle, especially when it comes to core subjects like math and programming. No student will pass through without experiencing problems, and sometimes failing exams, especially if they fall behind the pace of coursework. Some of the positives of the course include a focus on doing hands-on projects and internships, which are opportunities to give an actual experience. Criticisms towards the course include the fact that a couple of theoretical subjects require very little alignment with the needs of industries, so they become less practical in their application. The course is composed of two major tests during each semester along with regular tests and assignments; hence, the candidate needs to be progressively interfaced with the syllabus. The students will have four to five classes a day; thus, the period of time could range from 9 AM to 4 PM. There is a difference in the teaching methodology of the faculty, although most of them who are in there use an interactive learning approach that can ensure discussions and practical application. Other professors use project-based learning or mostly lectures with concepts reinforced through projects. He has imposed the attendance requirement to be at least 75% for all courses. On failing to meet the eligibility criterion for the programme, loss of marks would be imposed in the internal assessment or the candidates might even be debarred from the final examination.

Placement Experience:

Final placements usually start in 4th year with the conclusion of campus recruitment training. The drive usually lasts a month to two from the initial screening till the final interview. However on an average 45% of the students are placed during campus recruitment with an average salary of 4.2 LPA, The lowest CTC stands at 2.4 LPA and the highest at 8 LPA. The most preferred companies would be TCS and Infosys for my course during campus placements and their average CTCs stand at 3.6 LPA and 4 LPA respectively. TCS is the mass recruiter with an average CTC of 3.6 LPA. The placement committee oversees everything from recruitment training to bringing the companies to the campus and everything in between. They are transparent from the get go and maintain it till the candidate lands a job. They also play a crucial role not only in the technical training aspect but also in helping students imbibe soft skills and improve their communication skills which are just as necessary from a job point of view. There are no internship programmes for the MA programmes at EFLU although BA students and B.ed students have a summer internship programme specific to their courses. I have heard they have been very successful especially the internship programmes of the B.ed courses. These internships happen to be all unpaid and work is conducted under NGOs like Nirmaan.org and Youngistaan.

Placement Experience:

Placements at Sreyas usually start in the final semester; this covers January till April or May, depending on the participating companies and their recruitment schedules. The process gets formally closed once all the companies get completed with their recruitment rounds. Closing off the process takes an enormous amount of time owing to the fact that it takes such a long time for the companies to finalize their decisions. Though a vast majority of students do get placements, not everyone is placed. On an average, 50-65% of students get jobs through the college placement drive. The balance students who do not get a job are sometimes left high and dry. The college usually repeats the placement drives for such students, conducts some workshops or resume preparation sessions, and pushes them to apply independently also. Compensation-wise, the average CTC of graduated offers would be around 6-8 LPA, though the highest offers are all around 15-20 LPA. Even some students receive lower packages, mostly those positions offered in small companies or startups that see CTCs at times going as low as 4 LPA. These are the preferred companies by the Computer Science graduates at Sreyas: Google, Microsoft, and Amazon, as well as TCS and Infosys, mainly because of their reputation, career growth, and quality work experience offered. The average CTCs for these companies are between 8-12 LPA, hence they become very popular. Apart from these premier firms, there are many companies, mainly IT and consultancy-based organizations, which recruit in bulk during the placement drives. Wipro, Cognizant, and Accenture, among others, are common recruiters for such organizations and usually offer 5-7 LPA with average CTCs. The placement committee works extensively to build a connection between students and potential employers and does all the background work for the entire placement process. They organize campus recruitment, assist in conducting interviews, and guide students in resume preparation as well as interview skills. According to them, the process is highly transparent, although they have some issues related to the selection criteria of the companies and their communication regarding placement statistics. Thus, effective and transparent placement may vary from person to person with respective experiences and expectations.(BLANK PICTURE UPLOADED)
