Experience at Dr. B. R. AMBEDKAR NATIONAL LAW UNIVERSITY, SONIPAT

Remarks :

The pursue law through a National Law University, a person needs to be CLAT qualified. There's this exam conducted, CLAT, for all the students who want to pursue their law degree through a National Law University. The application form is released by the Consortium of NLUs. The fee for the examination form is about 5000 for all the candidates. Cut off of the exam depends upon the college you have preferred. But generally, the cut-off for the lowest ranking NLU for the general category is about 80-85 marks, and for the ST/SC category, the cut-off varies between 35-45 marks.

Course Curriculum Overview :

I chose law since it was my childhood dream to be a lawyer. Faculty: The student ratio is about 1:60. All the faculty members are highly qualified. All of them are NET qualified and there are various eligibility criteria that are necessary to be cleared to become a teacher in a National Law University. All the teachers are teaching really well and are exceptionally good in their particular forte. Every semester there are two exams conducted, Mid-semester exams, and End-semester exams. Mid-semester exams are of 20 marks and the time limit is 1.5 hours, and the end-semester exams are of 60 marks and the time limit is 3 hours.

Internships Opportunities :

The internships provided by the university are good. Students get internships at really nice firms and under good lawyers and judges. However, there is still a lot of improvement that can be done to improve the quality of the internships provided.

Placement Experience :

The students are eligible from the 9th semester for placements. The name of the companies visited the university is unknown to me since there's no placement officer in the university and the first batch that'll be graduating from the university might not even get placed.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

The university is funded by State therefore the fees are comparatively high compared to the other universities that are funded by the Center. Therefore it becomes quite hard for people who are not financially strong to afford the studies at the National Law University, even when these are Government Universities.

Campus Life :

The university was established recently and no batch till now has been graduated yet. A fest was about to be held and that was also canceled due to technical reasons stated by the university. Small programs and functions are conducted by the cultural committee of the university which is run by the students. The University Library is quite rich in terms of books but certainly, there is a lot of room for improvement. Some classrooms have smartboards while others don't. Boards however don't bother me much but since we are paying so much fees, then such facilities are expected. Also, there are provisions for switchboards on the desks.

Hostel Facilities :

The hostel and mess are however affordable and the quality is also good. Since the university is residential therefore it is necessary to stay in the hostel. The mess food is also pretty good in terms of the price they charge. We get 4 meals in a day for 100 Rs. The rooms of the hostel are also good in condition.
