GBPUAT, Pantnagar - A perfect summer university

Remarks :

The entrance exam of GBPUAT Pantnagar is conducted yearly during May-June and is based on a cut-off system with a selected number of seats. All the information related to application forms and dates of entrance exam are provided through the university's official website www.gbpuat.ac.in which has information related to different colleges and courses. It has a notice system that provides different notices and activities going on the campus. All the B.Sc courses require an eligibility criteria of 12th pass and a cutoff which is different for each course depending on several applicants and seats. There are reservation benefits and more details can be found on the website. The admission process takes 1-3 days and requires a physical verification of related documents which again can be found on the university website. 3 counseling processes are done and depending on the number of seats additional spot counselings are also conducted. Admission process details are provided through a notice.

Course Curriculum Overview :

B.Sc community science earlier known as B.Sc Home science is a 4 year undergraduate programme with 1 year of specialisation in a selected department. I chose the course because of my interest in Food Science and Nutrition. There are 5 different departments related to the development of communities and rural societies. Courses are related to food science, textile and apparel designing, extension education, consumer sciences and management, human development, and family studies. There are over 15 professors and over 250 students. Every professor has a Ph.D. and teaching experience of 10+ years. There are 2 pre-final exams and 1 final exam in 1 semester. Prefinals are midterm and the final is the end-term exam which is of average difficulty. While the professors are competent there is a shortage of faculty.

Internships Opportunities :

Internship programs are there during the 3rd and final year of the degree. A dedicated intership cell is there which provides interships to students. Students can avail of interships for about 2 months from enterprises, NGOs, companies, etc. with a stipend of a maximum of 5000 rupees. There are internships provided through college too.

Placement Experience :

Campus placements are overseen by a placement cell in the university. This cell provides placement to students in their final years. While there is a placement cell in the university, it is not run properly and needs many reforms. Companies do visit but it depends on the college. Banks and many NGOs visit the university. The highest package is approximately 9 lakhs. My plan after completing my degree is to look for a job in the food sector, mainly in FSSAI.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

During the 1st 2nd and 3rd semester the fees for the B.Sc program was almost 40 thousand rupees per semester After that the fees changed accordingly to almost 45 thousand per semester. The tuition fee is almost 16 thousand and the rest is related to hostel fees. Wards of University faculty and employees are given a fellowship which reduces their fees. Many scholarships are given related to reservation quota, income quota, etc. Scholarships are provided to every master's and Ph.D. student. All the scholarship details are given on the University website www.gbpuat.ac.in and their eligibility.

Campus Life :

The university provides various extracurricular activities and events. There are many sports events and national events. Athletic meets and sports events are conducted 2 times a year. Different sports events are done during these meets like cricket, football, volleyball, races, basketball, tennis, kabaddi, etc. Orientation and fresher party is conducted for 1st year students. Various societies related to the extra curriculum are there run by students like College societies, Chetna, SPIC MACAY, etc. The university has a campus library for students. It is one of the largest agriculture libraries in Asia. Classrooms have ample seating space with smart boards installed for digital education. The campus is quite spacious and easy to remember with proper roads and infrastructure. Overall the campus life is enjoyable.

Hostel Facilities :

There are 22 hostels in the university with well-accuited furnishings and amenities. During the 1st year, 3 students are given one single room which is quite spacious. In the 2nd year, 2 people are given a single room. Beds, almirah, study table, and chair are provided. There is a cafeteria system with 4 meals a day. The food quality is average and depends on the hostels. Hostel fees are almost 22 thousand per semester. Hostels are alloted during the admission process. For the price and amenities provided, I think the fees are justified.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I am doing B.Sc (Mathematics) from HNBGU, because Mathematics was my main subject in Intermediate School. There are good faculties for almost all subjects. They are all updated about their subject. All professors have done a brilliant job in their subject and they also support students in innovations. After every 6 months we have semester exams, 2 or 3 months before semester exams we have Sessional exams and practical exams.
