What are the humanities courses that one should do at IIT Delhi?

KS
Kunal Sharma Posted On : April 3rd, 2023
B.Tech. from Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi

Usually, two types of people opt for humanities courses. One prefers a laid-back schedule and easy grading while the other prefers challenging coursework and exciting lectures. My friend was kind to opt for a more lively course than spend his classes yawning away. He chose some courses like

  • Mind, Machines, and Language
  • Language and Communication
  • Creative Writing

Another extremely learned professor taught him Science, Society, and Technology. No doubt the course was very rigorous and demanding, but my friend enjoyed the course anyways. There were deep discussions, readings, and assignments which sometimes seemed too hectic, yet the entire process was intriguing and exciting at the same time.

Another course my friend opted for was Moral Literacy and Moral Choices which taught him concepts of Philosophy that none knew about. The course was very interesting. He talked about various thinkers and their philosophical teachings which transformed the students into another world.

All the humanities courses offered at IIT Delhi are intriguing and the parity of professors cannot be doubted. Go for any course that sparks a ray of interest in you!

MBA from Manipal University (2016)

Manipal Centre for Humanities is the humanities department of Manipal University in Karnataka. It is a leading research and teaching institute which aims at providing innovative and reflexive teaching experience, intellectual freedom, encourages student initiatives, and a pioneering centre for research in the various domains of humanities.

MCH has also partnered up with various foreign universities like Princeton University in the USA, Bergen University in Norway, Tata institute of Social Sciences in Mumbai, Indian council of Philosophic research, and Attakalari centre of movement arts in Bangalore to provide multiple opportunities for students to learn more.

Ranking:

Manipal University has been ranked as the best private university in India by the top three ranking agencies; The week, India Today, and Education world. In the past few years, it has shown a considerable improvement in ranking before topping it in 2019.

Courses:

  • The Manipal Centre for Humanities provides only a few courses; BA, MA in Sociology, MA in English, and Ph.D. program.
  • Its Bachelor of Arts course has been carefully curated with a course structure that encourages various critical and creative skills along with hands-on practice with research projects.
  • Students can choose a number of electives in their first two years and choose majors in English, Sociology or History in their third year.

Placements:

  • MCH is known for providing good placements in many multinational companies, however, maximum students opt for a master’s in a foreign university.
  • Manipal University assists them with their tie-ups in gaining admission to a foreign university.
  • They provide many workshops and mock interviews along with career fests.
  • Most students do end up in ivy league colleges and Manipal adds a good name to their CV.

Faculty:

  • The faculty at Manipal Centre for Humanities is extremely efficient and industry oriented. Most of the faculty members are doctorates with more than 10 years of teaching experience.
  • Their subjects are dependent on their specializations and most importantly, they aim to provide holistic and relevant education to their students.
  • Many departments have associate professors as well to help with teaching the students.

Thus, Manipal Centre for Humanities is a good institute but it does have high fees as compared to other BA colleges. Students who typically wish to do their master’s abroad or at Manipal itself can choose for this course.

The difference between Arts and Humanities is often seen with ambiguity. Arts is often considered an all-inclusive field. While disciplines from literature to political sciences are considered Humanities.

Contrary to this misconception, Arts cover the study of music, theater, literature, painting, sculpting, etc. While the study of philosophy, art, etc. is considered Humanities.
