NIT Calicut offers decent hostel accommodations. The rooms are double or triple sharing. The institute offers basic amenities such as beds, cupboards, and tables. Hostel rooms have adequate lighting and ventilation. Bathrooms are shared by several rooms. Rooms and washrooms are cleaned regularly. The mess facilities are good. They offer a mix of vegetarian and non-vegetarian food.

M.Tech students aren’t offered single occupancy rooms, by NIT Calicut.

The hostels are not good for PG students. One of my friends has experienced hostel life in NIT Calicut. He has shared his experience with me. The following points are a brief about the same:

  • In the first year, you will be accommodated in the professors' apartment, which is basically a flat having 3 rooms, 1 hall, and 1 kitchen.
  • There is no systematic allotment of room and one room can be shared by four, three, or two students depending upon the size of the room.
  • Some even sleep in the hall and kitchen. Almost 14-16 students share one flat with only three toilets. The college is far from the hostel but there are bus facilities available.
  • In the second year, you will be allocated MBA hostels, which are shared accommodation but toilets are attached. This is also far from college.

The internet connectivity is good at both the hostels. Do not believe when they say that new hostels are under construction because this is what they have been saying for years now. If you really want a single occupancy for yourself, go for the kitchen.
