How is the 8.0 CGPA at IIT Delhi?

At IIT Delhi, a 7 CGPA is considered average so definitely 8 CGPA will be considered above average. The value of CGPAs at IIT Delhi is as follows

7.0: AVG
8.0: ABOVE AVG
9.0: VERY GOOD
9.5+: EXCELLENT

Key highlight pertaining to CGPA

The usual cutoff set by companies that visit the campus for placements is 8.5. Very few companies have a cutoff of 8 or 9 so to stay on the safer side, 8.5 is an ideal CGPA.
No matter how lucrative your CGPA may seem if you don’t fill the certain criteria, it will be very difficult to get placed
Forex is a rare example that requires an 8 CGPA
For those opting for branch change, need to maintain 8+ CGPA
To hold a Position of Responsibility the minimum CGPA required is 7 CGPA.

I would like to comment that an 8 CGPA is quite decent and will open opportunities to a certain extent but to ensure maximum opportunities, an 8.5+ CGPA is recommended.

At IIT Delhi, 8.0 CGPA is considered to be above average. You will be eligible for almost all the companies coming for placement drive. Although you should know that some companies set the required CGPA as 8.5 too. One such example is Samsung R&D, in the 2017 placement drive the company the CGPA criteria to 8.5.

With a CGPA of 8, you can also apply for various internships and educational programs. These may have other eligibility criteria though.

Maintaining a decent CGPA of 8.0 or above is necessary as there are many fields where CGPA filtering is used.

Maintaining 8.0 CGPA is necessary because of the minimum criterion that is set by most of the companies during the placement session. 8.0 CGPA is the most likely CGPA required by many companies. However, some companies also set their cut off to 8.5 CGPA. In a situation like this, even if you have an exception CV you won’t be allowed to appear for that particular company. There are some companies that also require the minimum CGPA of 9.0 but the chances of such occurring are rare. CGPA is also helpful while applying for an internship. Better CGPA increases your chances of being selected. You will also need a minimum CGPA of 8 if you want to change the department after completing the first year.
