Not just IIM Lucknow but all the IIMs and the top B-Schools offers a rigorous MBA program. MBA in itself is a very challenging course because it is designed to prepare the students for the corporate world, to handle stress and to manage their time efficiently.

IIM Lucknow MBA is considered challenging because of it comprehensive curriculum. There are lectures from morning to evening covering all the courses. It is also mandatory for the students to maintain a 80% attendance. The classes are usually interactive and the faculties expect the students to come prepared to the class with the topics that will be covered.

Then there are rigorous case studies, group project, and presentations, which demands significant time and effort. All the faculty members have a different way of teaching, some can conduct surprise test in every session or some go with presentations and case studies.

Then there are term exams and the preparation of summer internship, which is also a part of the curriculum. The competitive environment and the networking expectations also makes the course difficult for the students.

The majority of the time of the students is consumed within the classroom. Most of the free time is also spend in group discussions for projects and presentations. So students usually struggle to find time for themselves, which makes than feel that the course is difficult. But within a few months most of the students adjust to this life and are able to manage time both for studies and leisure work like sports, club activities etc.

studied at Indian Institute of Management Lucknow

IIM Lucknow MBA is considered one of the most rigorous MBA programs in the country for the following reasons.

  • IIM L has a minimum 80% attendance rule for each subject.
  • The coursework is pretty demanding and you will have to study hard, from your very first day at the campus.
  • Each subject has mid-term, end-term, presentations, quizzes, assignments, projects, etc. On average there are 1o deliverables for each subject.
  • If you are a part of any committee or Council, you will have more commitment. However, being a part of committees like Manfest-Varchasva can be quite rewarding.
  • Other than these regular activities, you will have to prep for placements, work on your CV, and attend workshops and guest lectures.

While on campus, you will hardly have any time left for anything other than academics.

MBA from Indian Institute of Management Lucknow (2019)

Post Graduate Programme (PGP) of IIM Lucknow is considered to be one of the most rigorous MBA programmes in India because of the intense workload of the course. A lot of factors contribute to this workload like there is no concept of a weekend in the institute, it is supposed to be a 6-day working week with the classes all week long. However, most of the Sundays are also occupied by the guest lectures.

The minimum compulsory attendance at IIM Lucknow is 80% and students are allowed to miss 4 out of the 20 classes per term for every subject. If anyone misses more than 4 classes than the institute takes disciplinary measures.

Each term is of 2.5-3 months with 6-7 courses per term and 4-5 quizzes per course to go along with the end term and midterm exams each term. There are two books for each course per term, however, you end up reading 12-14 books and giving 44 quizzes and exams at the end of each term (3 months). The corporate presentations, workshops and sessions also take up a lot of your time and thereby adding to the workload.

Also, being in a B-school just doesn’t mean only curriculum-based academics there are internships, skill-based courses, certifications that also end up becoming a part of your schedule along with the college activities like sports, competitions, fests, societies that are responsible for your overall development.

To add to this there is a policy of absolute passing marks of 35 % for a course, even in the case of tough courses where the average marks of the entire class are 40 %, the students who get below 35% will fail the course. If any student ends up failing in two courses or fails in one course and gets a D in 2 more, they will be repeating the year, which approx. 10% of the people do on average every year. However, students get used to this way of life in 6 months and start enjoying it.
