If you ask me, I would suggest you opt for IIT Bhubaneswar to pursue B.Tech in civil engineering. My foremost reason is the fees involved.

  • Being a government-funded IIT Bhubaneswar will cost you less than BITS Pilani.
  • Over the year IIT Bhubaneswar has significantly focussed on integrating their curriculum with industry-required skills which will be helpful in your professional journey.
  • IIT Bhubaneswar offers B.Tech in civil engineering for four years at the undergraduate level.
  • The total tuition fee is around INR 8 Lakhs.
  • You will have to pay an additional amount of INR 220000 if you will avail of hostel facilities.
  • There is a one-time admission fee involved which costs around INR 20000.
  • The highest package in 2023 for this department was INR 38.7 LPA and the average package stood at INR 12.85 LPA.

Studied Computer Science & Economics at Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani (2019)

Below given are a few pointers which will help you determine the better choice.

  • Civil Engineering Cut off in BITS Pilani is 269 which is to be scored in their BITSAT admission test. On the other hand, IIT Bhubaneswar’s cut off is 6546-13803 in JEE Main
  • BITS Pilani is a popular institution and can be compared with IIT Bombay, Delhi or Kanpur but IIT Bhubaneswar which falls under the category of newer IITs is not as popular as BITS Pilani.
  • Being a private institute, BITS Pilani has a higher course fee that is around 16 lakh. Whereas IIT Bhubaneswar is a Govt. institute and the course fee is much lesser than BITS Pilani, 8 lakhs(approx.).
  • BITS Pilani provides an average placement package of 12 lakhs for a civil engineer but a graduate of IIT Bhubaneswar of the same stream gets an average package of 10 lakhs.
  • The Engineering department of BITS Pilani ranks 4 by India Today, 5 in Outlook India, and 7 in The Week. The Engineering Department of IIT Bhubaneswar ranks 9 by India Today, 24 in Outlook, and 15 in The Week.
  • BITS Pilani will be a better choice to study core engineering than in IIT Bhubaneswar due to the former's popularity among recruiters.

A University should be chosen according to the students admission test scores, JEE rank, and also financial situation.
