The current director of IIT Kanpur is Professor Manindra Agarwal. He served as deputy director before becoming the director in April 2024. He is a distinguished academic at the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at IIT Kanpur.

He received Padma Shri for his notable work in computer number theory in 2013. Some other accolades to his name include the Infosys Prize, the Godel Prize and Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Award.

Along with Neeraj Kayal, he created the AKS primality test winning him the Fulkerson and Godel Prize in 2006. He was appointed as the Director of IIT Kanpur on April 19, 2024. Seeing the academic research, contribution to the field of computer science and experience made him the perfect candidate to take on the role of director at IIT Kanpur.
