Which one is better for civil engineering: IIT Bhubaneswar or ISM Dhanbad?

IIT Bhubaneswar is ranked 11th among the IITs and 12th among the engineering colleges by India Today 2020. IIT Dhanbad is ranked 12th for engineering and 12th amongst IITs by the NIRF 2020.

Eligibility Criteria:

Both IIT Bhubaneswar and ISM Dhanbad have similar admission criteria for Civil Engineering programs.

  • Candidates are selected based on their scores in JEE Main and advanced followed by JoSAA counselling.

  • Students need a 75% or above aggregate in their 10+2 exams in science stream.

  • In 2019 the required cutoff for Civil Engineering ISM Dhanbad was 15724. Whereas, in IIT Bhubaneswar the required cutoff was 13803.

  • For M.Tech, students need a 6.5 CGPA or 60% in their Bachelor’s degree. Candidates also need to sit for the GATE exam, followed by a written exam and personal interview.

Fees:

  • The course fee for BTech and MTech at ISM Dhanbad is 2.28 lakhs and 57,500 per annum respectively.

  • The course fees at IIT Bhubaneswar are 2.14 lakhs and 2.34 lakhs per annum for BTech and MTech respectively.

Placements:

IIT Bhubaneswar:

  • 70% of students got placements in 2020.

  • The highest salary offered is 39 LPA, the lowest is 6 LPA.

  • The average salary is 9 LPA.

  • For Civil fewer core companies come for placements. Companies like IOCL, ISRO, DRDO, Wipro, IBM, Accenture, TCS come for recruitment.

ISM Dhanbad:

  • Generally, IIT Dhanbad has around 70-80% placements, but in 2019-2020 around 20% of students got placements.

  • Some of the companies that recruit are Accenture, KPMG, Aditya Birla, L&T Construction, Ambuja Cements, and Tata Hitachi.

Infrastructure:

IIT Bhubaneswar:

IIT Bhubaneswar is a relatively newer institution but has all the facilities that students need, including hostel, Wi-Fi, medical, canteen, and sports facilities.

ISM Dhanbad:

The campus is spread over 393 acres of land. The college has a state-of-the-art-library which is the second largest library in Asia. IIT Dhanbad is one of the oldest IIT campuses and has a badminton court, basketball court, squash court, tennis court, cricket and football grounds, track ground and table tennis facilities.

Both the IITs have similar educational and admission policies. The decision to choose the college depends on the location and facilities offered by the colleges.
