IIITM, Gwalior, and NIT, Silchar are well-known institutions and are accredited by both MHRD, Government of India, and AICTE. IIITM, Gwalior is ranked 100th out of 300 in India for BTech by NIRF. Whereas, NIT, Silchar is ranked 46th out of 300 in India for the same.

Both the institutes have their own set of pros and cons and one must compare both before choosing one.

Admission:

The admission is based on past academic records and performance in the entrance exams at both IIITM Gwalior and NIT Silchar.

  • IIITM, Gwalior offers courses like B.Tech., M.Tech., MBA, Ph.D., B.Tech. + MBA.

  • B.Tech., M.Tech., MBA, M.Sc., Ph.D. are the popular courses at NIT, Silchar.

Infrastructure and Facilities:

IIITM: The institute offers hostels with modern facilities, labs, lecture theatres, libraries, computational facilities, auditorium, sports, yoga, canteen, common room, etc. It hosts a number of cultural events throughout the academic year.

NIT: The technical institution offers a number of facilities such as student hostels and mess, sports grounds and courts, healthcare center, shopping center, library, gym, bank, etc.

Scholarships:

IIITM: IIITM scholarships are provided to meritorious students who fulfill some criteria, such as scoring a certain GPA, and maintain the terms and conditions for availing it.

NIT: Scholarships such as Engineers India Limited scholarships, Samsung Star scholarships, etc are offered to meritorious and/or SC/ST students.

Placement Statistics:

IIITM:

  • 90% of students were placed in top recruiting companies such as Microsoft, Amazon, EY, Google, Goldman Sachs, etc.

  • The highest and average packages offered were 42 LPA and 14.58 LPA, respectively.

NIT:

  • 86.12% of students were placed in 94 companies such as Amazon, Goldman Sachs, HSBC, Samsung R&D, etc.

  • The highest package offered was 32.5 LPA.

Alumni:

IIITM: Notable alumni of the institute include Abhishek Kishore Gupta (Partner: KPMG India), Anil Choudhary (Data Scientist), Aditi Bansal (Program Management Associate: Adobe), and Naveen Sharma (Scientist).

NIT: The alumni of NIT Silchar includes the likes of Dr. Soumyabrata Chakrabarty (ISRO), Sudhir Kumar Singh (Scientist), Prince Joshi (CEO: Geobrugg India), and Rajib Das (VP: Morgan Stanley).

IIITM and NIT are excellent institutions and in order to choose an institute between the two, you should compare the two institutes based on the program they deliver for the course you are interested in. You should base your choice on other factors as well such as quality of academics and faculty, expectations from college life, etc.
