Yes, IIM Ahmedabad is better than IIM Bangalore and IIM Calcutta. Although in terms of quality of education, placements, and career opportunities, all three of these IIMs are equally good, IIM Ahmedabad has better brand recognition.

IIMA was the second IIM to be established and has a large alumni base. Most of the IIM Ahmedabad alumni are working in top MNCs around the world.
IIM Ahmedabad has a case-study-based curriculum. It follows Harvard's real-practical cases.
Over the years, IIM Ahmedabad's curriculum and facilities have kept pace with the industry requirements.

The huge alumni base and better brand recognition are a few of the reasons, IIM Ahmedabad ranks higher than IIM Bangalore and IIM Calcutta.

Although the 2020 NIRF rankings hold IIM A as 1st, IIM B as 2nd, IIM C as 3rd there persists a very thin line of difference between the top 3 IIMs. The following table draws a comparison between these three IIMs.

But selection criteria should not be based only on the placement scenario, there are other parameters which need to be considered.

Extra-curricular

Every IIM organizes the biggest Management and cultural festivals.The Brick Red Fest, Chaos is organized by IIM A, Unmaad and Carpe Diem; annual cultural fest of IIM B and IIM C respectively.

Alumni network

Among the three institutes, IIM A has a far more active/organized alumni network with most of them placed very highly in top companies.

Although IIM A is ranked 1st in the management category among the Indian institute, all these institute offers almost the same career opportunities.
