B.Tech Mechanical Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology Varanasi (2021)

It’s true that there are areas in which IIT BHU needs to improve like infrastructure, faculty, etc. But writing off the institute entirely would be wrong. Here are the reasons why.

  • IIT BHU was ranked 14 for B.Tech by NIRF 2021.
  • For CSE, it is among the most difficult college to get into. In 2021, the cutoff for CSE was 594-873. The steep cutoff ensures a great student crowd.
  • IIT BHU has successfully wrapped up its first phase of 2022 placement. The highest CTC offered was INR 2.05 CPA.
  • Since the institute was established way back in 1919, the alumni network is huge.
  • The institute has many councils and clubs, such as Science and Technology Council (SnTc), Cultural Council, etc. You can pursue your hobbies there. These clubs have many achievements in competitions happening around the world.

In fact, IIT BHU has improved its academics, research culture, placements, a lot over the years. Life on campus in IIT BHU is similar to any other IIT.

B.Tech Electrical Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology Varanasi (2019)

Calling outright that IIT BHU is going down may not be a correct statement. Let me present to you an unbiased perspective of it.

It’s true that the professors are lacking in terms of teaching and it is not at par at almost all IITs. However, there are always exceptions, and IIT BHU does have few good professors. Also, the recruitment strategy has been changed in the recent past, and now, one can find energetic, young, and well-experienced professors being recruited.

One of the areas which dip IIT BHU ranking is its Infrastructure, which is indeed a bit old, but it is not to be misunderstood as it would affect you academically. IIT BHU has one of the finest labs and playgrounds to help your overall development. Another factor is the sex ratio at the college. Again, diversity plays an important role, but it is hard to understand how the standard of education is linked with gender diversity?

Now, come to one of the primary factor Placements. Even though IIT BHU has seen a recent dip in the ranking, the placements have been quite good and in comparison with other old IITs. IIT BHU took the 1st position in Graduation Outcome in 2016, though it had seen a dip the coming year and hence these recent speculations about IIT BHU.

To clarify a few things regarding the Graduation Outcome; it considers various factors like placement, publications in terms of academic research and innovations, etc. The fact is the government doesn’t find IIT Varanasi, IIT BHU, and IIT (BHU) Varanasi the same, which is the same and hence, didn’t collect all the data which lead to the dip in ranking. However, the Institute’s director is working with MHRD to get this corrected.

If you enquire about IIT BHU from IITians or IIT alumni, they would never say it’s a bad Institute but it would instead suggest this campus. Seeing the recent improvements of the college, the institute would be on the top list in the coming years.
