I have to admit that the placement opportunities are not very satisfying and the packages offered are quite average.
Previous placement statistics reveal that the scope for chemical engineering at NIT Srinagar is not very satisfying. Last year 53 students enrolled for placements in the Department of Chemical Engineering, and 15 of them, or 28% of the total, were placed in key businesses including IOCL, GAIL, BARC, SAIL, etc. The average compensation package is 8 LPA, and the highest salary package is 10 LPA. Chemical engineering students were hired by analytics firms like ZS Associates, Vedanta, and others for an average pay package of 9 LPA.
Finding a job after completing a B.Tech degree in Chemical Engineering at NIT Srinagar can be a daunting task for many students. According to statistics, only a small percentage of students, around 9-10%, can secure a job right away. However, for those who do not find immediate employment, there is a viable option to consider. Preparing for and passing the GATE examination can open doors to better job opportunities and pave the way for future career growth.
M.Tech from IIT Bhubaneswar makes sense only if you are willing to study more on research-based topics of the subject. It is best if one is looking for a career in Teaching, Researching, etc. to further gain knowledge about the subject and not work in MNCs.
IIT Hyderabad ranks 8th in the Engineering category by NIRF 2020. The number of students who got placed from the Chemical Engineering department in the 2019 placements was 26. The average salary package offered to students with Chemical Engineering is 15 lakhs per annum.
IIST is a space institute under the Department of Space. The students from IIST are recruited as scientists and engineers in the Department of Space facilities and Indian Space Research Organization centers all over India. They receive a starting salary of 10 lakhs per annum. Facilities like Infrastructure, Library, sports facilities, Computer labs, clinics, Data centers in IIST are much better and well equipped than the IITs.
Thus it is your choice to opt for what course you are interested in.
I have a few friends from Amrita University, so I can give you some information regarding the required cutoff for admission at the institute.
With this rank, you will get admission at Amrita University but for getting a CSE branch you will need a rank below 3000. If your rank is above 3000, then you may ask the management and you might get Bangalore or Amritapuri branch for the CSE.
If you are not in the Tamil Nadu state quota category you cannot get a seat with the counseling process, you will need to contact the college for more details. If you belong to the state quota then you might get preference and get the branch of your choice.
One of my friends is an alumnus of this college, and as per her experience, I would give some insights about chemical engineering from BVP.
The institute is decent, but it depends on different factors to decide if it is best for you.
For the placements, BVP lacks opportunities in the core chemical branch. In the previous year, very few companies came for recruitment. It is better not to keep your hopes high for lucrative packages or core jobs.
The placement details of the college are below.
Average Package | INR 6.5 LPA |
Highest Package | INR 18 LPA |
Tuition Fee | INR 4.8 Lakhs |
The scope of chemical engineering is limited in BVP. It is suggested you do not go for it, instead choose CSE or IT, which have a huge demand.
Honestly, the answer is No. One of my friends was in a similar situation and he did not get admission with a rank closer to this.
With the GNGL rank of 2,500, it would be very difficult for you to get into the chemical engineering program at IET Lucknow. The general rank is way higher.
I would strongly suggest you not settle for any random private college with this rank. It would be better to take a year drop.
However, if you have other options such as JEE Mains, you can try private colleges like LNMIIT, Thapar, etc.
The preference is always given to BITS Goa as it belongs to the most reputed family of BITS institute. One of my friends has studied there and he loves the campus from all aspects.
The major reasons as to why BITS Goa is to be preferred are:
Scope
Faculty
Campus
BITS Goa makes it a better option on all fronts whether its faculty, campus, or scope. Having this outlook will help you get to a good institute. The stream can be a point of interest but other factors also matter.
It is tough to compare IIT Kanpur, IIT Bhubaneshwar, and ISM Dhanbad. Still, being a Btech student from IIT Kanpur I think I’m better positioned to tell you the best according to my experience.
Faculty: IIT Kanpur boasts a highly qualified and experienced faculty, many of whom have obtained their PhDs from top institutions worldwide.
Research: Faculty members are actively involved in cutting-edge research and frequently publish in top international journals. They receive numerous national and international awards.
Industry: Professors often have strong connections with the industry, leading to collaborations, consulting projects, and opportunities for students to engage in real-world problem-solving.
So, in my opinion, you should go with IIT Kanpur as it is also known for its best-in-class education, and IIT Kanpur ranked 5 in the NIRF 2023 ranking list.
The major factor that drives the decision of which course to pursue is the placements.
Chemical Engineering- IIT Roorkee
As per the 2018-19 placements record, more than 250 companies participated in campus placements, some of them were ITC, Reliance, Jindal Steel, TATA, and many more. Chemical Engineering Students at IIT Roorkee recorded an average placement of INR 13.05 lakhs per annum. A total of 8 PPOs were offered to Chemical Engineering students. Roles were offered for Technologist, Researcher, Data Scientist, Data Analyst, Consultant, etc. The placement rate for Chemical Engineering was around 80%.
ECE at IIT Bhubaneswar
ECE is one of the new branches of IIT Bhubaneswar and was introduced in 2016. Due to this, the first batch to pass out would be the batch of 2020. So there are no past records for this course. However, seeing the trend of placements for electrical engineering, the same can be assumed for ECE as well. In the year 2018-2019, 86% of the Electrical Engineering Department was placed. Companies like Amazon, INTEL Technology, ISRO, DELL, Thermax, Tata Steel, and many more visited to recruit students during campus placements. The average placement was recorded at INR Rs. 11.44 lakhs per annum.
EEE at IIT Mandi
As per 2019-20 placements, 62.5% of EEE were placed during phase-1 of campus placements. A total of 75 companies visited the campus and some of the top recruiters were Accenture, Wipro, CISCO, ISRO, CSC India, Siemens to name a few. The average package offered was 13.5 lakhs per annum. Several PPOs were also offered.
Considering the placements data, you should choose Chemical Engineering at IIT Roorkee. However, the final decision of which course and college to select rests up to you.
Both IIT BHU and IIT Kanpur are one of the best and oldest institutes in India. But according to me IIT Kanpur is better than IIT BHU here are some reasons:
Based on the above information, IIT Kanpur is a better choice than IIT BHU.
Indian Institute of Technology (BHU) is a public engineering university, situated in Varanasi. The institute has tie-ups with the University of Cambridge (UK), University of Oxford (UK), University of Sheffield (UK). The institute has been ranked 10th and 11th in the categories engineering and overall by the NIRF rankings in 2019.
Course Details
Placements
With various international tie-ups, the institute has enhanced its learning experience and placement facilities. Recruiters from Indian and foreign companies visit the campus for placements. With IIT being a renowned university students bag top-notch placement offers. The institute boasts of a very high 75% placement rate, which makes it a good choice for students interested in the course.
