What is the scope of IIIT Allahabad 5-year courses?

Studied at Indian Institute of Information Technology, Allahabad (2019)

A few of my friends are alumni from IIIT Allahabad. The scope of the Dual Degree BTech + MTech course is good.

  • For the first 3 years of the course, the curriculum is exactly the same. All the students (Dual Degree as well as BTech) attend the same classes, sit for the same exams, get the same results together. However, from the fourth year onwards, the specialization courses start.
  • Once you complete the dual degree course, you will be eligible to sit for the same placement rounds as BTech guys. The results of which depend entirely on your knowledge & skills you have acquired during last 4-5 years.
  • However, Dual Degrees will especially help you if you are interested in R&D areas.

The only reason that the cutoff is a little bit lower for Dual Degree courses is that many of you might be hesitant to spend one extra year in college. But for a college like IIIT Allahabad, it is worth spending an extra year. Sadly, in 2018 the 5-year dual degree courses were disbanded due to some administrative instability.

What should I choose. 1. CSE Jadavpur University 2. B.Tech + M.Tech dual degree CSE @ IIEST, Shibpur 3. CSE @ NIT Durgapur?

IB

Studied at Jadavpur University

First of all, never compare Jadavpur University with NIT Durgapur for the Engineering stream. Second important thing is, people usually prefer B.Tech and M.Tech students over the one who has opted for Dual degree program. The reason for this is dual degree programs are not valuable in industry or research.

Talking particularly about CSE, Jadavpur University is quite good and even better than the new IITs and most of the NITs. Among the given options, CSE at Jadavpur University is the best option to opt for. You will enjoy your studies here. You will have a good range of research projects. You will get abundant internship opportunities from here. Although placements at JU are not as great as compared to IITs, NITs, BITS, and IIITs.

How much scholarship does a student of dual degree from IIEST Shibpur get? Is there any merit based scholarship for the general category students?

AC

First of all, the scholarships are not generally given, considering the scholars of IIEST. This should be kept in mind always.

The amount of money in the scholarships and the payment mode may differ in different cases. It can be paid regularly until the completion of the degree, or as a one-time payment. But you must know that there are subjects and the criteria to get the scholarships, which should be maintained.

Many former students have pointed out that the Global Alumni Association of Bengal Engineering and Science University, Shibpur, frequently funds the stipend, in which this institute sometimes acts as a whole or sometimes as an individual. Still, everything depends on the criteria, which is not always the academic merit.

In the following some criteria are listed, which are normally maintained:

  • Academic Record
  • Some Co-curricular activities
  • Sports or Athletic records
  • Financial Background of the student (if you are from an economically poor background, then it is subjected to the lowest academic criteria)
  • Subject-based performances

However, more other criteria are not always listed but the college administration before the admission process.

Besides these institutional scholarships, there are also MHRD sponsored scholarships. These are well-documented, and you can get the details from the MHRD website; thereby, much explanation is not required in this regard.

You must check whether your parents/guardians are qualified to receive Income Tax reimbursement or the returns to support educational costs before applying for scholarships.

Should an iM.Tech in IIIT Banglore be preferred over a B.Tech in IT in IIIT Allahabad?

DS

iMTech is an integrated course offered at IIIT Bangalore which includes a 5-year BTech+ MTech program. It is not possible to compare a 4-year BTech course with a 5-year Integrated MTech course.

Particulars

IIIT Bangalore

IIIT Allahabad

Course

MTech. Integrated

BTech.

Total Fees

9.38 lacs

General- 5.85 lacs

SC/ST- 1.27 lacs

  • If you want to pursue MTech after BTech, iMTech at IIIT Bangalore is a great option as you will save a whole year. However, if you don’t want to pursue BTech, you should opt for IIIT Allahabad.
  • The course curriculum and faculty at IIIT B are excellent. On the other hand, at IIITA students are quite frustrated with their faculty.

Based on the above facts and the conversation I had with some of my friends and colleagues who are pass outs from IIITB and IIITA, I would advise you to choose IIIT Bangalore with closed eyes.

Should I go for the Integrated MTech course in IIEST or rather do the BTech in Jadavpur University or some NIT (say, DGP or Calicut) and then try and get a better college for my MTech?

AG

I have a few friends from IIEST. According to them, choosing IIEST can be good. For departments like Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Mining, the faculty base of IIEST is great. The civil engineering department at IIEST is one of the oldest in the country. Also, as per the new norm, you don’t have to complete a dual degree.

You can have an exit option after completing your 4-Year B.Tech. Which is definitely a good option. However, if you want to choose CS/IT, for placements, top or average NIT/JU will offer better placement opportunities.

So, consider all your options and choose according to your convenience.

Which is better for an integrated degree: IIITA or IIITM Gwalior?

According to my alumni connections from both the colleges, IIIT-Allahabad should be your priority for any degree in information technology. There should be no doubt if you are comparing with IIITM Gwalior. IIIT-Allahabad has an edge over IIITM Gwalior because of these two major reasons:

  • This institute has produced a well-known alumni network around the globe that too in a short span of time. So, choosing such an institute with a good academic, industrial and alumni record will definitely prove to be much helpful for you.
  • Also, IIIT-A has a better placement record than IIITM Gwalior which is often seen as a priority by many of you.

Categories

IIIT A

IIITM G

5.4-6.7 lakh

Both are very good institutes but definitely, the IIIT Allahabad is better. However, in case your pool of interest is information systems management, then you can blindly go for IIITM Gwalior, as they provide integrated degrees in IT and Management.

Which is better For CSE, Individual Btech and Mtech in Alliance University, Bangalore or Integrated (Btech + Mtech) in LPU, Punjab?

AK
Amit Kripal Posted On : March 16th, 2023
Former Sub Divisional Engineer Telecom,,(RTD) (1974–2009)

When considering pursuing a Btech and Mtech program, it is important for you to carefully evaluate the available options to ensure that you make the best decision for your future. You may find that individual Btech and Mtech programs at Alliance University in Bangalore are a better choice than the integrated Btech and Mtech program at LPU in Punjab, as they offer some significant advantages.

One of the key advantages of pursuing an Individual Btech program followed by an Mtech program is that you will have the opportunity to apply for jobs at the end of your Btech program. This means that you will have the flexibility to start your career and gain valuable work experience before continuing on to pursue your Mtech degree. You can build your skills and gain exposure to the industry before continuing your education, which can be a significant advantage.

On the other hand, if you choose to pursue an Integrated Btech and Mtech program, you will not have the option to apply for jobs at the end of your Btech program. This means that you will have to wait until you have completed both programs before you can start applying for jobs. This can be a disadvantage as it can delay your entry into the job market and limit your opportunities for gaining work experience.

Another potential drawback of an Integrated Btech and Mtech program is the risk of discontinuation. In the event that you are unable to complete the program for any reason, you may not be able to obtain your Btech degree. This can be a significant setback as it can limit your career opportunities and leave you without a completed degree.

In conclusion, if you are considering pursuing a Btech and Mtech program, it is important for you to carefully evaluate your options and consider the advantages and disadvantages of each. Individual Btech and Mtech programs at Alliance University in Bangalore offer greater flexibility and career opportunities than an Integrated Btech and Mtech program at LPU in Punjab. Ultimately, the decision is yours and should be based on your individual goals and circumstances.

Which will be a better choice, 5 year MTech in IIT Bhubaneswar or 4 year chemical in IIT Hyderabad or aerospace in IIST?

NR
Nikhil Raj Posted On : August 14th, 2020

M.Tech from IIT Bhubaneswar makes sense only if you are willing to study more on research-based topics of the subject. It is best if one is looking for a career in Teaching, Researching, etc. to further gain knowledge about the subject and not work in MNCs.

IIT Hyderabad ranks 8th in the Engineering category by NIRF 2020. The number of students who got placed from the Chemical Engineering department in the 2019 placements was 26. The average salary package offered to students with Chemical Engineering is 15 lakhs per annum.

IIST is a space institute under the Department of Space. The students from IIST are recruited as scientists and engineers in the Department of Space facilities and Indian Space Research Organization centers all over India. They receive a starting salary of 10 lakhs per annum. Facilities like Infrastructure, Library, sports facilities, Computer labs, clinics, Data centers in IIST are much better and well equipped than the IITs.

Thus it is your choice to opt for what course you are interested in.

Is it a wise decision to join an IIT Bhubaneswar dual degree course ?

AP
Abhinav Pandey Posted On : August 14th, 2020
B.Tech. from Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur (2024)

IIT Bhubaneswar is one of the best new IITs. One of the advantages is the strength of the batch is relatively small. The faculty: student ratio is also low. This forms a close-knit family at the Institute. Also, IIT Bhubaneswar very much focuses on their placement to improve their rankings. Many top firms like ISRO, IOCL, TCS R&D have visited the campus for internship and final placements offer. The average salary package offered to the students was 11.44 LPA, and the highest package was 39 LPA.

You will feel good to know that IIT Bhubaneswar has collaborated with various foreign universities for student exchange programs and research, as well. In your last year, you will do a project and research work, so you will be able to build a vast industrial insight. Also, dual degree courses are not a bad option because at the end of 5 years you will have two degrees and if you go abroad for a second Master’s degree, some of the courses would have been covered by you in your fifth year. In this way, you will finish your masters in less than 18 months. At the cost of an extra six months, you are getting exposure to the specialized technical courses and a degree. So, dual degree courses are great and it is an IIT after all where you can have a great alumni network ... You are good to go!
