Manipal University is one of the leading universities in India and making its mark with its prestigious grace across the globe, offering undergraduate, graduate, and research programs to the students. Birla Institute of Technology (BIT) is approved by UGC and AICTE and is accredited by NAAC, offering various courses at undergraduate, graduate, and doctorate levels.

Courses Offered, Fees and Eligibility Criteria

Manipal University

• Some of the few courses offered at Manipal University are BA, BBA, B.Tech, MBA, MBBS while their fees range from around 80,000 to 14.4 Lacs per annum.
•  The eligibility criteria for most of the courses being an aggregate of 50% in 10+2 along with an entrance examination for selection.

BIT Mesra

• Some of the few courses offered by Birla Institute of Technology (BIT) are BE, B.Arch, B.Sc, MBA, MCA, M.Pharm, M.Sc. while their fees range from around 1.27 Lacs per annum to 4.26 Lacs per annum. 
• The eligibility criteria for most of the courses being an aggregate of 50% in 10+2 along with an entrance examination for selection.

Manipal University

• Some of the top recruiting companies visiting the campus of Manipal University are Cognizant, Ephicacy, Tata Consultancy Services, GlaxoSmithKline, etc. 
• The highest salary package offered at Manipal University was 22.38 Lacs per annum. 
• Whereas, the average salary package offered to graduates in Manipal University is 7.2 Lacs per annum. 

BIT Mesra

• Some of the top recruiting companies visiting the campus of Birla Institute of Technology (BIT) are Infosys, Microsoft, Cognizant, Capgemini, Amdocs, etc. 
• The highest salary package offered at Birla Institute of Technology (BIT) was 40.63 Lacs per annum. 
• Whereas, the average salary package offered to graduates in Birla Institute of Technology (BIT) is 10.40 Lacs per annum. 

Getting admission into Manipal University or BIT (Birla Institute of Technology) has its own advantages for the student getting admitted and how the student grab holds the opportunities coming along the way.

BIT Mesra, Ranchi ranks 85th among the private engineering colleges as per NIRF ranking 2020. It provides 80% placements every year in branded MNCs. 

On the other hand, PEC Chandigarh ranks 68th among the top engineering colleges as per NIRF ranking 2020. It maintains a proper placement record of 80% and is at the forefront of churning out software engineers with a high calibre.

Admission process:

BIT Mesra, Ranchi

• The candidates must have a minimum of 75% marks in 10+2 with PCM and valid JEE Main score.
• The cutoff required is 2593 - 9207.
• The total seats allocated is 68.

PEC Chandigarh

• The candidates must have a minimum of 75% marks in 10+2 with PCM and valid JEE Main score. 
• The cutoff required is 3282 - 7074.
• The course fee required is INR 96,750.

The top recruiters are Cognizant, Infosys, Verizon, Microsoft, IBM, Amazon, TATA, JP Morgan, Accenture, TCS, etc.

Faculty:

The faculties of both these colleges consisted of 60 members in each department with each of them being cooperative and helpful towards the students. 

Facilities:

• Hi-tech Laboratories with the latest computer technologies. 
• Regular 24×7 security system throughout the campus.
• Auditorium with an intake capacity of 2500 people.
• The institute consists of a central library having a collection of 1.19 books on various topics. 
• They have separate hostels for boys and girls. There are six hostels with four hostels for boys and two for girls.

Both these colleges are excellent in their standards. They provide quality education with decent placements every year. However, PEC is more preferred than BIT Mesra, Ranchi, as Chandigarh being closer to Delhi, offers higher education opportunities.

Being a resident of Ranchi, some of my friends are currently pursuing a degree from RVCE. This makes me more aware of both the institutes we are comparing BIT Mesra and RVCE. A friend of mine recommended RVCE for CS due to a few specific reasons: 

• The location is the main advantage for RVCE as it is located in Bangalore. Being in the technical hub of the nation provides immense exposure too especially to a CSE student. The city is home to an immense number of start-ups and MNCs where you can join and gain valuable experience.
• When compared to BIT Mesra the RVCE boasts of a quality peer of students from a diverse background. This will help you gain immense exposure and help you improve from an overall personality perspective.
• Comparing the quality of education RVCE takes a lead when compared to BIT Mesra and boasts of excellent facilities.
• Placements-wise too RVCE takes a slight lead compared to BIT Mesra while considering the undergraduate placement opportunities. If you are a student who is dedicated to studies then in RVCE CS you can easily bag great placement offers. 

Listed below is a basic comparison between both the institutes: 

Considering all these factors one can opt for RVCE CS if the opportunity comes when compared to BIT Mesra.

Considering various aspects like placements, infrastructure, environment, and placements, etc, IIEST stands out to be the better among the other two. 

Cutoff: 

The cut-off of BIT Mesra is very high and the reason behind this is 50% reservation for Jharkhand state, SC, ST, and OBC category students.

Course Fees: (Winning Institution - IIEST)

After the hike in fees for NITs, BIT Mesra is only comparable to NIT Rourkela, not IIEST. The fees of BIT Mesra are much more than IIEST and NIT Rourkela.

Alumni Base: (Winning Institution - IIEST)

All these three institutes were established in the ’60s and hance have strong wide-spread alumni networks. IIEST has a great alumni network with a rich legacy.

ROI: (Winning Institution - IIEST)

ROI is one of the most important factors to consider while choosing an institution. Among the three institutions, IIEST is the best institution in that regard. It has the lowest course fee among the tree.

Based on the above discussion it is safe to say that IIEST is a better alternative in all aspects. 

Jadavpur University is located in the middle of Kolkata and BIT Mesra is located at the outskirts of the city. Jadavpur University has arts and science departments as well, so one will get holistic viewpoints.

Infrastructure: BIT Mesra has more conforming buildings and much better food and lodging than the Jadavpur University.

Diversity: BIT Mesra has got overall better diversity but the gender diversity is surprisingly twisted.

BIT Mesra - 

• The average package was 11.76 lakhs with Student strength of 120.
• In 2020, Microsoft gave the highest package of approx 49.76 lakhs and took 7 students.
• Multiple other top companies came like GS, Amazon, DirectI, Walmart labs etc.

Jadavpur University - 

• The average package was 19.96 lakhs with Student strength of 60.
• In 2020, Tower Research gave the highest package of 42 lakhs. Tower Research only visits top 7 IITs and some very few good colleges, Jadavpur University being one of them.
• Microsoft took 11 students from CS. Various other companies visited the college like Deshaw, Amazon, GS, etc.

Supplementary Examination:

• Jadavpur University is very good in terms of examination. Students can attempt multiple numbers of supplementary exams and the administration will make sure the student clear the exams and the supplementary exam fees are about Rs. 50.
•  BIT Mesra have introduced the year back concept from 2018 batch onwards. Supplementary exam fees are about Rs. 10k per paper or if the student wants to give backlog examination in the summer breaks then for registering 3 backlog papers you have to pay about Rs. 26400.

In Jadavpur University, one might feel a bit of preference if the student is not from West Bengal. One will get sufficient free time in Jadavpur University as compared to Mesra.
