What should I take, mechanical engineering at NIT Jalandhar or electrical at PEC Chandigarh?

RV

Research Scholar at National Institute of Technology, Rourkela (2015–present)

The choice of course depends on your own interests. But as far as the college is concerned, I recommend you go for PEC. It’s way better than NIT Jalandhar. Some advantages PEC enjoys over NIT Jalandhar are

  • Better placement and packages ( Highest CTC in PEC- INR 46 LPA whereas in NIT Jalandhar INR 43.5 LPA).

  • Better exposure through seminars

  • Location-wise PEC has better connectivity as NIT Jalandhar is situated on the outskirts.

  • If you are planning to prepare for GATE, then coaching and competition are better in Chandigarh than in Jalandhar.

So choose the course of your choice but go for PEC rather than NIT Jalandhar.

Which is best: CSE IN THAPAR UNIVERSITY, ECE IN PEC, OR CSE IN NIT JALANDHAR?

DS
Deborah Sam Posted On : December 19th, 2022
Lives in Gurugram, Haryana, India

Both branches are excellent. You must prioritize your interests. If all three colleges had CSE, PEC would have been the best option. All of these colleges offer comparable placements, with PEC having the upper hand.

In this case, however, it is clear that the average package in ECE would be lower than in CSE. City-wise, Chandigarh is unquestionably the best option, and the exposure you will receive at PEC will be slightly better.

The most significant advantage of NIT Jalandhar is that you earn the title of 'NITian,' as well as the opportunity to study in a nationally significant institute. You will have an advantage over students from these institutes in the industry because of this one factor. That speaks volumes about the opportunities and jobs available.

So, in that order, NIT Jalandhar > PEC ECE > Thapar CSE.

However, if you get CSE at PEC, choosing between NIT and PEC will be more difficult. However, you should choose NIT Jalandhar. The rest is entirely up to you.

What is the dress code of PEC Chandigarh for freshers?

FB
Falguni Bose Posted On : April 30th, 2021
studied at PEC Chandigarh

Well, there are two fresher's parties organized at PEC Chandigarh. One is the hostel fresher's where the dress code is based according to the theme of the party and they will tell you the dress code before a day or two.

Another is the branch wise fresher's party where there is no such mandatory dress code and one can wear anything they like. Yes, many people tell that boys should wear western formals and girls should wear a western dress to the fresher's party, but these are all rumors and it is not compulsory at all.

Many people prefer wearing formals but you can choose to wear whatever you are comfortable with. You can go to the party wearing party casuals and it is perfect wear as these clothes look good and are also comfortable too unlike formals. Some people even attend wearing casuals too.

It is completely your choice to choose your dress for the fresher's party and no one will judge you based on your clothes.

Can one take ELE at PEC Chandigarh and then learn coding by himself in his free time and then get placed in an IT company like Microsoft, Google, Amazon etc.?

PD

B.E. Electrical Engineering, Punjab Engineering College, Chandigarh

I have two friends who are Electrical Engineering graduates from PEC and are currently working in a good IT company. One of them was also among the only two people who cracked directly written.

Being from an electrical background, it can be tough to learn coding in your free time and also cope up with your syllabus and keep your grades high. But if you are persistent you can definitely do it. You might also need to study some CS/IT subjects like DBMS while learning to code. As many students of the institute suggest to secure a job in an IT company you have to take off-campus routes, as most of the top companies are not open for interviews for the Electrical branch at PEC Chandigarh.

But yes, it is possible to land a job at an IT company even after completing ELE if you can learn to code properly and work hard enough to make yourself prepare for the job.

Will cutoff for PEC Chandigarh go down with addition of 175 seats?

SB

B.Tech. Mechanical Engineering, Punjab Engineering College, Chandigarh (2019)

Yes, there is news about the addition of 175 seats in PEC Chandigarh and many are thinking that the cut-off marks will decrease as a result. With the increase in numbers of seats, the cut-offs are supposed to go down but it might not decrease for popular branches like CSE, ECE, Mechanical. There might be a difference of a few marks for some of the courses, but other than this everything is likely to remain the same.

The table below shows the required cutoff for PEC Chandigarh in recent years.

Can students in the Chandigarh quota get a hostel in PEC?

GS
Gaurav Singh Posted On : April 30th, 2021
B.E. Mechanical Engineering, Punjab Engineering College, Chandigarh (2020)

Although students may be told that they won't get a hostel in earlier stages after waiting for a few days the students in the Chandigarh quota can get a hostel in PEC. But there is some process that needs to be completed in order to get a hostel in PEC.

You have to submit an application to the hostel warden and you have to mention your reason clearly, why do you need a hostel after being from Chandigarh as they don't provide hostel facilities to the students belonging from Tricity (Mohali, Chandigarh & Panchkula).

But the first preference is always given to the students who are taking admission through all India quota and they are allotted the hostel rooms first. But after a few weeks from their allotment of hostel rooms, the students in the Chandigarh quota who have applied and submitted an application will get the hostel rooms.

What should I choose between NIT Bhopal CSE and PEC Chandigarh CSE?

SB
Surendra Bose Posted On : April 30th, 2021
Studied at Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology, Bhopal

Both NIT Bhopal and PEC Chandigarh are very good for CSE and provide many facilities to its students. Out of both of them, I would recommend you to choose NIT Bhopal over PEC Chandigarh due to the following reasons.

  • Placements are much better at NIT Bhopal. The average package being offered is around 12.51 LPA which is comparatively better than the packages offered to PEC Chandigarh students.
  • CSE department witnessed 100% placement offers at NIT Bhopal.
  • While studying at an NIT, you get the 'NITian' tag which is very valuable and a matter of pride for every student out there.
  • As a city, Bhopal is more beautiful than Chandigarh.
  • You can enjoy your 4 years of B.Tech at NIT Bhopal while pursuing your graduation. As there is not much load of studies and assignments on students.

Hence, NIT Bhopal is a better institute than PEC Chandigarh and provides all the facilities and the proper environment to students without much load of studies. So, it is better to choose NIT Bhopal over PEC Chandigarh.

Should I take aerospace in PEC or CS in CCET Chandigarh?

KC
Khushi Chitra Posted On : May 4th, 2021
Studied M.E from Punjab Engineering College, Chandigarh (2015)

It totally depends on your career interest. In India, there are very few jobs in the aerospace industry than in Computer Science Engineering. However, you should definitely pursue ‘Aerospace Engineering' at PEC University.

Aerospace in PEC

  • Aerospace Engineering (PEC University) is an excellent choice. It has a good reputation, personal development opportunities, better placements, and experienced faculty members.
  • Companies providing placement are Airbus, Rolls-Royce, BAE Systems, Bell Helicopter, Boeing, Honeywell Aerospace, Rockwell Collins, etc.

CS in CCET Chandigarh

  • Computer Science from CCET, Chandigarh, on the other hand, is not a good option. It is not as well-known as PEC University.
  • Campus placements are limited. CSE is now equivalent to MCA, and MCA graduates can apply for the same job as a Computer Science engineer.
  • Companies Provided placements are Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Infosys, Wipro, HCL, Cognizant Accenture, and many more.

What should be done so that placements at NIT Hamirpur can be like that of PEC Chandigarh?

SS
Shubham Saxena Posted On : May 4th, 2021
B.Tech from Banasthali vidyapeeth (2020)

My brother is from PEC Chandigarh, so I might be able to share some facts with you. Some important factors regarding placements of PEC include the following:

  • PEC has an academic policy that requires you to complete a 6-month internship in an industry or a research laboratory during the fifth semester. It strengthens the industry-academia relationship while also securing good PPO. This policy does not apply to NITs.
  • PEC's alumni-institution relationship is one-of-a-kind because of its long history. Try to construct it at NITH so that in upcoming days it'll be fruitful.
  • A dedicated Career Development and Guidance Cell (former TPO) is required to contact and invite large corporations to the campus.
  • With the practical approach to teaching and the freedom to participate in extracurricular activities, PEC students have a lower academic load than NITH students.
  • The final but most important factor is the ability (not to be confused with talent) that the students develop here being a part of a club or society.

Above all, study hard to gain good core knowledge, use your nit tag, and try to land good off-campus placement offers. This will certainly change the atmosphere on campus and your college's image in the eyes of industry. The change will come gradually with time.

What are the various facilities available at PEC, Chandigarh?

SK
Shaurya Kaushik Posted On : May 4th, 2021
B.Tech. Electronics and Communication Engineering, Punjab Engineering College, Chandigarh (2019)

One of my friends studied at PEC Chandigarh, so I am a little aware of his situation and how his experience was during his time there.

Let me now discuss the various facilities available at PEC Chandigarh and how it was an educational institution.

  • PEC's facilities are similar to those at IIT. Because PEC follows the same curriculum as the IITs, the atmosphere is also the same. There are numerous clubs and societies in college that help students develop their extracurricular interests.
  • The entire campus is Wi-Fi enabled. All basic amenities are available, such as library access, sports grounds, a newly introduced entrepreneur incubator cell, and a computer center, which provides free access to computer applications and the latest software.
  • The college is eco-friendly and has a lovely campus. Few buildings are more than 60 years old. The campus spans 146 acres. The labs in the computer science and ECE departments are excellent.
  • Mechanical, production, and electrical labs all need to be upgraded. The majority of the machines are quite old, and only a few new ones have been purchased. Practical exposure via labs is limited. The library is good and has three reading halls.
  • A gym and a swimming pool are also available. The auditorium is small and out of date. The new classrooms are excellent, with a microphone and sound system. In each room, projectors are available.
  • There are four hostels for boys and two hostels for girls. Mess food is good, and the fee for a year is around Rs. 50,000. There is no in-time for boys; however, it is 8:30 for girls.
  • A nearby market has all food outlets and stationery stores, as well as two banks and three ATMs. Nescafé and CCD are also available on campus. The college has a dispensary, and there is also a residential doctor on campus.

These are the various facilities he received during his time at PEC Chandigarh.
