Students usually think that NIT Rourkela is better than MNNIT Allahabad in rankings. But if we look at past rankings then NIT Trichy comes first, following Warangal, Surathkal, Calicut, Allahabad. 

Compared to NIT Rourkela, Allahabad branches are better than Rourkela. MNNIT Allahabad’s brand value is also greater than NIT Rourkela.

• NIT Rourkela’s ranking is higher than MNNIT Allahabad because NIT is growing at a fast pace. After the director of NIT changed to Dr. Sunil Sarangi, the infrastructure and research have seen positive changes. MNNIT has degraded because of its bad administration. 
• But if we see infrastructure, research, and faculty of both the colleges electrical engineering department, then both of them are equally good. 
• MNNIT Allahabad has a better placement record than NIT Rourkela. Several companies visit the Allahabad campus for recruitment. 

Therefore, both the colleges have their own advantages. If you want to explore new culture and state then MNIT Allahabad will be a good option for you. But if you want to stay closer to your house then you can join NIT Rourkela. 

There are few differences between the CSE and the IT branch in MNNIT in Allahabad. One of my friends studies at MNNIT, so I can give you the basic difference between these two branches.

1. Academically: 5th and 8th Semester subjects of CSE and IT branch are different. 
2. Learning: There is not much difference on the learning basis. Core subjects are the same in both departments. In both departments, you will learn through self-study. 
3. Placements: There is no difference in placement of CSE and IT branches. Several companies come for placement for both departments, giving you several opportunities. 

The recruiting companies are more or less the same that offer both CSE and IT. The list includes - Microsoft, Google, Accenture, Oracle, PWC, Capgemini, Byju’s, Jaro Education, Adobe, Goldman Sachs, etc.

There is only a slight difference between both departments. Both the departments of MNNIT Allahabad are almost the same on the basis of learning, placement. So, if you want to join MNNIT Allahabad CSE or IT branch then go for it.

MNNIT is the first college to start a B. Tech. program in Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) in INDIA. Students here get a 24x7 unlimited internet facility and this is uncommon in many other colleges as they restrict internet usage.

• MNNIT is a ragging-free campus. Seniors are good and they will help juniors in any aspect. 
• All boy's hostels except the first year hostel remain open 24×7.
• Chemistry and its professor will remain nightmares for you for the rest of your college life. If your favorite subject was Chemistry in Intermediate then you will never say it after you pass the first year.
• You will feel the changes in yourself as time pass in this college. 

There will be an improvement in your Behaviour, Academic Status, Thinking ability, Interaction ability, Interest. This is all due to the atmosphere of the college.

As per MHRD rankings, MNNIT Allahabad is ahead of SVNIT SURAT, but one should not choose the college by the MHRD rankings. Below are some facts about both the colleges.

Placement: 

• MNNIT Allahabad is way ahead of SVNIT Surat, whether its core or non-technical companies.
• MNNIT Allahabad is heaven for placements, especially for Computer Science, ECE. 
• SVNIT Surat equally competes with MNNIT Allahabad when it comes to core companies.
• For Chemical engineering both are at par with each other and usually, students in chemical engineering have ample time to study other than their academics. 
• The curriculum is not vast and it is a bit relaxed, so you can start coding and other kinds of stuff that interests you.

Clubs & Fest: 

• Clubs and Fest are way better in MNNIT Allahabad than SVNIT Surat, nothing is bought out creative from students out there apart from 1 or 2 clubs.
• In MNNIT especially coding clubs, seniors will guide you nicely even if CS is not your branch. In today's world, everyone knows that coding is a must requirement regardless of your branch.

SVNIT Surat has a better location, it is placed in the heart of the city with malls, parks. It is in a posh area with hospitals, clinics, cinema halls, food outlets like McDonald's, KFC, dominos, pizza hut everything's reachable within minutes. But overall, MNNIT Allahabad is a potential choice as it is on par in every aspect.

For a candidate with a GATE score of 611 and a rank of 5900, admission in design or thermal mechanics at NIT Surathkal is not possible in general. But, there are chances of admission of such a candidate in the present years as most candidates with similar ranks are either from IITs or NITs. 

The points below give some insights regarding the scenario of admission.

• A candidate with a rank of 5900 has some chances of admission in design or thermal mechanics but in the spot counseling rounds.
• There are usually zero to very few placements in such departments at all institutes in India, whether it is an IIT, NIT, or any private college. The GATE coaching centers mislead students by telling them about fake placement records and so, students jump into its preparation. There are very few jobs in PSUs for such subjects, which is an added disadvantage.
• For students interested in applied mechanics or design mechanics, BARC is a better option than M.Tech. But, there are instances of injustice in interviews and very little selection of candidates, which leads to excessive competition.
