What should I choose, top IIITs or NITs like NIT Delhi, Agartala, Goa, and Puducherry?

US

One of my friends has been researching this topic for quite some time. So sharing his views might help answer your question. According to him, it totally depends on what you are getting initially.

  • If you manage to get top IIITs like IIIT Hyderabad, IIIT Allahabad, IIIT Delhi, or others then only go for them.
  • Some courses are far better in NIT than IIIT according to the placements and other facilities that are being offered.
  • The NIRF ranking matters to a large extent. It can sometimes favor you during placements.
  • The placement statistics should be kept in mind. Always take up a college that has the placement record of usually placing 90% or more.
  • Do check that the placement is consistently good, decreasing or increasing.

Lastly, we can say that for choosing a particular college always consider the parameters mentioned above and then make your final decision. Because this will shape your career ahead.

Should I take ECE if I am interested in Computer Science, do they have anything in common? I am getting ECE at BITS GOA and IT at NIT Allahabad.

Well, in such a case where you get blocked and don’t understand what to choose then you should discuss it with your parents and seniors in the particular field. They will help you to sort out which field you should choose and what benefits you will get by choosing that.

But as far as I know, there are always some things common like you do programming on microcontrollers and use Raspberry pi if you are in ECE. But there is a limit to coding in ECE.

If you see in CSE and IT both the fields are core coding branches. If you are passionate about computer science I would suggest IT is the field you should opt for. At the same time, NIT Allahabad is a good college and it does have its reputation.

So, this was all the data I can assist you with but my personal suggestion to you would be to take a long-term decision. Both ECE and Computer Science are good courses but you should identify which one you are passionate about and how are its prospects in the future. Only then you will be clear to choose the best for you.

Which NITs are better options than BITS Goa/Hyderabad?

FR

NIT Trichy or NIT Warangal is better than BITS G/H. NIT Trichy is extremely good for academics and research purposes. It was placed at the 9th position in the NIRF ranking of the year 2021 released by the ministry of education India. It is also considered to be better than BITS for core branches like Mechanical, Civil, etc. The course fee at NIT Trich is considerably lower than that of BITS.

You can check the placement report of NIT Trichy for the past 2 years in the table given below.

Particulars Salary/ Statistics (2019) Salary/ Statistics (2020)
Placement percentage 95% 90%
Highest Package offered  INR 40 LPA INR 42 LPA
Average Package offered  Rs 4.5 LPA Rs 6.5 LPA
Number of companies visited 220 91
Top Recruiters Godrej, Wipro, HCL, TCS, Amazon Volvo, Wipro, Yahoo, HCL, Ford

On the other hand, BITS focuses more on entrepreneurship and business ideas. NIT Surathkal would also prove to be a pretty good option if you are facing some financial issues with the fee that is charged by BITS. I would place all of the other NITs below BITS Goa/Hyderabad.

Can anyone with a Xth 65% XIIth 67.4 and BTech 7.73 can practically land into good B-school such as FMS Delhi, IIT Mumbai/Delhi, NMIMS, NITIE or JBIMS?

MR

PGDMM from NITIE (2018)

These institutes don’t give much weightage to academics.

  • FMS doesn’t consider your marks at any stage of admission. At FMS, You will get a call based on your CAT score. The final admission is often based on the Group discussion and Personal Interview. For the final call, 85% weightage is given to the CAT score and 15% is assigned to the GD-PI score.
  • JBIMS also admits students based only on their entrance examination scores.
  • NITIE assigns more weightage to GD-PI.
  • IITs also do the same.

Historically speaking, these institutes have offered admission to students with a similar profile as yours.

How to rank these colleges for engg., JIIT, Northcap, Shiv Nadar, GD Goenka, Manav Rachna, JSS, Galgotia, AKG, ABES, IET Lucknow, KNIT, or YMCA FBD?

I heard a lot of people ask these types of questions but it is fundamentally incorrect. VIT is one of the top-ranked colleges in India. However, the VIT students heavily deny this fact.

If your goal is to pursue PG programs or get employment through placements immediately after your graduation, then keep an eye on the curriculum, the flexibility allowed by the elective courses offered by the institute(s). You can also ask the seniors and the committee in charge of the admissions about the placement cell and how it functions.

It does not matter where you go and/or whatever you do; only 30% is in the hands of the institute. That is determined by how your prospects are affected and how your peers are. Rankings are often deceptive. They do not accurately indicate how good the institutes are.

You should make up your mind about your rank, campus life, placements, core academics, peers, etc. You must have a clear idea of what you want to achieve in the future and look for accurate information that will help you in your goal.

Here is a generalized preference order, based on the reviews that I have of these institutes.

Shiv Nadar University > JIIT > Northcap University > YMCA > Others.

Is it possible to get an education loan before admission in IIM Rohtak? Is a co-borrower necessary, as my parents income is 1 lacks per year?

SR
Shivani Rai Posted On : August 2nd, 2021
MBA from IIM Bangalore (2018)

You can take a loan for pursuing your studies at IIM Rohtak. Many banks provide you a loan for your education without keeping collateral or any security before. The only thing you need is to have a co-borrower that can be your father, mother, brother, sister, or any other known person. However, you need to submit some amount of money to get your seat reserved that can't be given by the bank initially but can be reimbursed after some time.

Also, you can take a loan more than your total fees for the course, so that your other expenses like a laptop, traveling costs, certification courses, or any other can be fulfilled smoothly.

What is the minimum average percentile a general student should get on the SNAP to getting into Symbiosis?

SR
Siddharth Roy Posted On : June 23rd, 2021
Studied at the Heritage Institute of Technology, Kolkata (2019)

There are a number of colleges under Symbiosis Institute. The minimum percentile should be 98% and above in order to get into a top college at this institute. However, the minimum percentile to be obtained differs among colleges under Symbiosis.

SNAP scores are accepted at many Symbiosis Institutes. The percentile cutoffs of some of the top Symbiosis Institutes are as follows:

  • SIBM Pune- 98% and above
  • SCMHRD Pune- 97% and above
  • SIIB Pune- 90% approximately
  • SIBM Bangalore- 90% approximately.

These above-mentioned percentiles would be enough for you to retrieve interview calls from the institutes. Your performance in the GD and PI would decide your acceptance in these institutes.

If my academics are average then what should I do to get good business colleges like IIMs and XLRI?

SG
Sagnik Ghosh Posted On : June 18th, 2021

You should work on cracking CAT and XAT competitive examinations. If you score well in these exams and you are in the top 100 then nobody can stop you from getting admission to these colleges.

  • You have to have good scores in CAT and XAT exams.
  • You need to perform well in the interviews as well.
  • At IIM weightage is given to academic performances but weightage is only 30% rest 70% weightage is given to CAT scores and your performance in the personal interview.
  • You should be a consistent performer in academics.
  • To get admission at XLRI, you need to score high in the XAT exam.

Your past academic performances are not the criteria for selection but you should be well prepared for the interview for answering those questions related to your past academic performance. The major weightage in the admission process is given to the XAT scores.

Which is a better profile, 92/93/62 or 95/83.6/71 for IIMS, XLRI or FMS? (or is it more or less the same?)

MD
Megha Deb Posted On : June 18th, 2021
MBA, Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (2019)

In my opinion, there is not much of a difference as it lies almost on the same line. If I were to point out the flaws among the profiles, I would say 62 for the first, 71, and 83.6 for the second.

  • Be ready to face some intensely fierce competition as there would be students better than you.
  • Your efforts would be compared with their efforts.
  • Understand that various colleges have their own criteria of selection which includes a grade-scale they approve of - not more or less. You cannot negotiate on that.
  • Apart from that, if you have managed to perform well at your CAT and have a high percentile, you can be confident about expecting a call from C/FMS.
  • In case you have a brilliant XAT percentile, XLRI would give you a call for an interview.
  • Since IIM A/B has really hard academic criteria, it would be difficult to get into it.

It is not entirely impossible, but do not have too many high hopes. Chances are slim, not nil. If you work hard to secure good scores, it will be easier.

What are the chances of getting at IIM ABC, FMS, or XLRI if 10/12/grads' percentages are 65/82/65?

SG
Souvick Gupta Posted On : May 31st, 2021
studied MBA IT & Systems at Balaji Institute of Modern Management (2019)

More than the 10th, 12th, and graduation percentile, it is the entrance exam marks that matter. Getting admission in IIM ABC, FMS, XLRI is also not impossible if you somehow manage to score well in the CAT.

There is a selection criterion for every institute. For example, an institute like IIM C has a merit-based selection system in which they prefer students with higher percentile. IIM B focuses more on the distinctive profile and a little less on the percentile. FMS has reserved its 60% criterion for the CAT marks. In this way, every institute has its own criterion for selection. It will be tough to get admission at IIM A as it demands a high cutoff for graduation as well.

So, apart from one, all the other options are open if you can secure a good score in CAT.
