What should I do I am getting civil at MNNIT Allahabad in first round? This is my first attempt and I'm interested in ISI, IISc or IISER for research.
ISI, at the undergraduate level, teaches statistics and mathematics and IISER is in charge of General Sciences and MNNIT Allahabad offers engineering programs. Think thoroughly about what you want to pursue because the paradigms are different and the impact on the industry is also different.
If you go for civil engineering at MNNIT Allahabad you will find that the subjects are similar in the first year. You can top your class if you study hard. Only the top 2-3 students get the opportunity for changing their discipline after completing the first year. Changing your discipline will enhance your eligibility to the other institutes you have mentioned in your postgraduate.
ISI gives you five options at the postgraduate level:
- MS in Quantitative Economics
- M.Tech in Computer Science
- M.Tech in Reliability, Quality, and Operations Research
- Post Graduate Diploma in Business Analytics (this is co-hosted with IIT Kharagpur and IIM Kolkata)
- In case you want to pursue mathematics then you can go for M.Math.
IISc offers a number of specializations in engineering and general sciences. The eligibility, however, was restricted to undergraduates and the disciplines related to them. For shifting disciplines, you will have to appear for the GATE exams for the discipline you are converting to.
My friend appeared for his GATE exam in CSE to pursue the same in M.Tech. ISI is unique in this case because there are no restrictions here.
Which is better, Roorkee in chemical or IIT BHU in civil?
IIT Roorkee Chemical Engineering is better than IIT BHU Civil Engineering. It is an old IIT and offers good exposure. The student culture on campus is great.
IIT Roorkee placements are good for Chemical Engineering. Each year almost 100% of students get placed from the branch. The average CTC for the branch is around INR 14.5 LPA. While the highest CTC goes up to INR 1.54 Crore per annum.
Which one is better in academics for a B. Tech (Civil Engineering) among NIT Surathkal and NIT Hamirpur?
On the basis of academics, if a college has to be chosen between NIT Surathkal and NIT Hamirpur for a B. Tech civil engineering course, one should look at the different perspectives that are given below.
NIT Surathkal:
NIRF ranked NIT Surathkal as the 21st best engineering college in 2019. The college has an amazing faculty for civil engineering most of the teachers that are in NITSurathkal have acquired Ph.D. degrees and a minimum teaching average of 2 years. The admission to the BTech Civil program is through JEE Mains.
Placements:
- NIT Surathkal in the academic year of 2019 witnessed a 100% placement percentage.
- There were around 60 companies present to give jobs to the B. Tech students.
- A total of 97 students opted for placements for B. Tech civil engineering course, out of which all of them got the placements.

NIT Hamirpur:
In the academic year 2019, NIRF was ranked as the 60th best engineering college in India. The BTech Civil Engineering admission is through JEE Mains. NIT Hamirpur has 9 Ph.D. scholars who are taking the classes. They give tutorial framed questions and the faculty also provides the best study materials.
Placements:
- There were a total of 49 jobs that were offered by the companies to the students.
- There were around 41 students placed out of the total 63 students making a percentage of 71.33% of placements.
- The top recruiters that came to college were Accenture, Wipro, Oracle, Samsung, Godrej, Bajaj, Reliance, HSBC, Jugnoo, Ashok Leyland, Bloomberg, and Ascon.
- The average package was recorded to be 6 LPA while the highest was 12 LPA.
Therefore, in conclusion, in terms of syllabus, both these colleges have more or less the same course structure and merit system. If a choice has to be made between the two one can choose a college based on the factors that are given above.
Which one is better to choose Jadavpur University in civil engineering or Kalyani Government College for CSE?
Civil Engineering and CSE are the trendiest branches as reckoned by the leading companies. If you will opt for a better college over a preferred branch for pursuing engineering then it is suggested to switch your opinion.
Seeing this, you must choose Civil Engineering at Jadavpur University over KGEC. Following are the reasons for choosing the same:
- The faculty at Jadavpur University is comparatively better than Kalyani Government College. They are well-experienced and most of the faculty members hold a doctorate degree.
- The student crowd at JU is helping and competitive. One of the main highlights is the students’ club in the university. You will receive good exposure.
- Although the placement scenario for the civil industry is deteriorating in the entire nation, it is still better to take it up at Jadavpur University than Kalyani for CSE.
- The mass recruiters are mainly limited to companies such as TCS, Infosys, etc. at Kalyani. Whereas in JU, you would be able to opt for financing and consultancy firms as well. They certainly provide contenting packages.
It is suggested that you choose your preferred stream if you ultimately have planned on pursuing higher studies like GATE, GRE, etc. If you are planning on doing MBA or some job then JU would be the best fit.
You should keep in mind that the name tag of your undergraduate institute always stays with you hence choose wisely.
Which is better, JUIT Solan or JUET Guna, for civil engineering?
In terms of Civil engineering, both the colleges, JUIT Solan and JUET Gunaare good colleges to learn from and for overall development. But the latter comparatively has an edge over the former.
Academics:
JUET Guna campus is sprawled in multiple folds, over more than 125 acres. The civil engineering lab at JUET GUNA is more equipped than JUIT Solan from what I have heard from many of my seniors. Due to the much bigger campus, you can use up the instruments more efficiently.
Placements:
As far as the placement is concerned, both are nearly the same. If you want to go to a non-core Job you can easily get it with good effort or else if you opt for core jobs then they conduct pool campus drives specifically at different locations.

When was the civil (B.Tech) branch started at IIT Bhubaneswar?
The civil (B.Tech) branch of IIT Bhubaneswar began in 2008. The civil branch is part of the School of Infrastructure. In 2011, the Institute of Technology (Amendment) Act, 2011 was passed. According to this act, IIT Bhubaneswar is part of the eight New IITs established across India.
The B.Tech Civil Engineering course was one of the first courses that were offered. Today IIT Bhubaneswar ranks at 17 by NIRF, showcasing the well-qualified professors and facilities it offers. There are forty-eight gender-neutral seats and ten women-only seats in the department. The branch also provides learning in management, humanities, communication skills, arts, general studies. The students thus go through rigorous intellectual and personality development.
Which is better for the future: PEC civil or UIET Chandigarh CS?
The choice must be done purely based on your interest. If you are not that interested in coding and if you take a lot of time to understand the core language, there is no point in opting CS even if it's in high demand. Once you enjoy what you are learning you will succeed in your job position. Otherwise, there is no point in being hung up in a course which you don't enjoy and for four years or even for the rest of your life.

If you don't have a specific preference and you are okay with either CS or civil, then clearly assess college reputation, placement stats, and other opportunities in the respective fields which are briefed out below.
- Both PEC Chandigarh and UIET offer 24/7 high-speed internet facilities at both academic blocks and hostels. Academic blocks are fully air-conditioned.
- Labs are fully equipped with hi-tech equipment. Libraries are up-to-date with new books of international standards.
- Food at hostels is pretty good and you can even opt for off-campus housing facilities. Both of these universities give priority to sports.
- Both of them organize certain tech fests out of which 'PECfest' of PEC and 'Avishkar' of UIET are quite popular.
As a branch CSE is on top when compared to Civil. But when you compare PEC and UIET, PEC has an upper hand. Set your priorities straight and opt for the best college for you.
Should I go for civil at NIT Sikkim or petroleum at Dehradun?
Many students go through this dilemma and the right way to choose a college is to compare them on various aspects. As some of my friends are from these institutes, I can provide a bit of information about them.
- NIT Sikkim is a very popular and reputed engineering institute but the college in Dehradun is not much reputed and also has less popularity.
- To get admission to NIT Sikkim, you will have to clear the JEE exam.
- But the college in Dehradun is a private college and you will have to sit for an exam conducted by the college to get admission.
Civil Engineering Department of NIT Sikkim
- The students in this department are very talented and more than 50% of the students have scored more than 8 GPAs in their 3rd semester.
- The faculty of this department is decent enough and very cooperative.
- The weather here is very pleasant and the campus is very beautiful.
- The infrastructure is not good enough as in private colleges. The lab facilities available in this department are also poor.
- The placements at NIT Sikkim are very good. There will be PSUs and many other popular companies visiting the college, so the numbers are likely to increase further.

It is difficult to predict with certainty whether you will get admission to PEC Chandigarh for civil engineering with a rank of 30,921 and the outside Chandigarh quota in the spot round. However, here are some points that might help you to understand the admission process:
- PEC Chandigarh has a total of 360 seats for B.Tech, including 54 seats for civil engineering.
- The admission process at PEC Chandigarh is based on the candidate's rank in JEE Main.
- PEC Chandigarh conducts six rounds of counseling, including a spot round, for admission to B.Tech programs.
- During the counseling process, candidates can select their preferred course and college based on their JEE Main rank and the availability of seats.

There is no comparison between IIIT Raipur and IIEST Shibpur for Engineering. IIEST Shibpur is a much older and well established college than IIIT Raipur. Being a student of IIEST Shibpur myself, I can confidently say that the college is much superior when it comes to engineering.
- IIEST offers decent placements due to its strong alumni network and reputation among people.
- According to recent placement statistics, many top recruiters visited during the placement drive including Microsoft, Vedanta, Wipro, Cognizant, Godrej, HSBC Technologies, and many others giving the highest package of INR 39 LPA.
- Lastly, we can say that though IIIT Raipur may be known for its brand it does not stand on the same ranking as the old engineering departments of IIEST.
