Situation at PEC Chandigarh is pretty good currently. The new director has brought about a prominent change in the earlier stagnant situation at PEC. He has broadened the approach with an exhaustive curriculum and better infrastructure.
The next best change he has brought about is amazing placement opportunities. If you are from a branch like CS Or Mechanical, you will definitely land a core job. Highest package this year was INR 42 LPA.
Lots of sports facilities are improving. Other facilities include new centres like Siemens Centre of excellence(only 3 more in India) and solar tech park
Voyagers scheme where students get funded by college to explore rural India is surely another game changing feature of the college.
Extracurricular activities are also valued here and there are a lot of clubs to pursue your hobby.
The quality of faculty is also increasing gradually.
All these changes prove that you should definitely go for PEC over NIT Jalandhar.
There are many notable alumni of NIT Jalandhar. A few of their names are mentioned below.
RJ Siddharth, aka Siddarth Malhotra, is also worth mentioning. He did his BTech from NIT Jalandhar. Later in his career, he worked as an RJ in 92.7 Big F.M. He used to host a popular breakfast show. He also worked as a scriptwriter for the famous web series 'Rangbaaz’.
There is nothing called a better college. One college can be good for you but bad for others. Similarly a college can be bad for someone else but perfect for you. Every college has its own flaws. So it depends on how much you are willing to overlook and get the best results.
Still if I have to make a choice among the above colleges, I will go for NIT Hamirpur. The peaceful ambiance and beautiful infrastructure is worth it.
Definitely, you should go for NIT Jalandhar. There are various reasons and differences due to which NIT Jalandhar is the better option for CSE.
The table below shows a brief insight on both NITs:
Particulars |

Both the colleges have some pros and cons but NIT Jalandhar still provides you with the best.
To know how the Civil branch at NIT Jalandhar is, we need to consider 3 factors:
Academic: The theoretical subjects are well taught by top notch faculty. The labs are however not in very good condition here.
Internships: There are not great internship opportunities here. Students themselves are not interested in spending their summers at the site.
Placements: L&T is the major recruiter in private companies for civil engineers .For public jobs you need to appear for GATE for PSUs. If you have completed any internship, then placements will be very easy for you.
All in all NIT Jalandhar is a great choice to pursue Civil Engineering.
Working hard pays off. You will undoubtedly get upgraded if refrain from relaxing or participating in pointless activities. Develop some appealing skills as well, as this is more common in campus selection.
Your grade point average should be higher than 8.5. However, it is difficult. To advance in your branch, you must work hard during your first year. If you're thinking about attending CSE, your chances are slim. Because very few students are capable of doing so. However, you can choose ECE because it is also very good for placement at NIT Jalandhar.
The placement percentage of Electrical Engineers at NIT Jalandhar this year (2022) was 69.23%.
The average Package of EE (2018-2022) Batch (till date) is 11.95 LPA. This package was for the FTE offer for GET(Graduate Engineer Trainee) Role.
The highest Package secured by one of my classmates was INR 9.2 LPA in FuturesFirst (Trading). Some were selected by Deloitte USI offering 6.2 LPA (Consulting) followed by Saint Gobain offering 6 (Shift Engineer+marketing) and many more.
Basically, almost everyone from EE was able to get placed at good firms with good packages. In Fact, some big companies like Samsung, HSBC, Texas Instruments, and Oracle visited for students with software profiles but one of us had actually developed proficiency in it.
If you are really interested in the subject go for it. Don’t worry about placements. For the best placements join the circuital branch ( CSE, ECE, IT, EE, ICE)
Unlike the general opinion that NIT Jalandhar is better than Thapar University just because of its NIT title, I have a different opinion. I think Thapar University should get the recognition it deserves. Some points in favor of my opinion are:
The CSE was renewed by Trinity College, Dublin. The curriculum is way more advanced than that of NIT Jalandhar. The latter has an outdated syllabus which is not relevant to the industry.
Many technical societies help inculcate special skills.
Placements for CSE are excellent at Thapar University.
Coding culture is witnessing a spike over the few years. 1st year students are getting selected for GSOC
The research culture at Thapar University is better than that of NIT Jalandhar where no one is interested in writing research papers at all.
The infrastructure is also better at NIT Jalandhar.
The location of Thapar University makes it easily accessible to restaurants, cinemas and other facilities.
There are various coaching institutes in and around Thapar University for GRE/CAT/IAS/GMAT.
All these points clearly prove that Thapar University is better than NIT Jalandhar.
Ranking-wise BIT Mesra is better than NIT Jalandhar. It has some other additional features also:
BIT Mesra has Alumni in all the Top Universities around the globe
BIT Mesra also has International campuses in Ras al khaimah and Bahrain
It has the first rocketry department in India and has helped IITs to set up their rocketry department
It also has a Super-Computer called PARAM 10000.
BIT Mesra offers placements that are at par with the IITs
Top recruiters include Facebook, Google, and Microsoft
The grading system at BIT Mesra is absolute and the evaluation process is also very strict. So you will have to focus a lot on your CGPA.
This comparison is general. I think you should make a choice based on your own preferences. Consider factors like closeness to your home, Coaching/guidance for GRE, and alumni network.
The word better is a competitive form. Since you haven’t mentioned better than which college I have done a general comparison. Well yes, NIT Jalandhar is better than:
Other private colleges are just money-making machines
New NITs
Some new IITs as well
Established in 1987, this college has a strong alumni base so it’s better than many new colleges.
