Why is there so much waitlist movement in IIM indore and Kozikode?

HS
Harleen Sethi Posted On : January 24th, 2023
IIM Calcutta | Category Manager intern at Amazon

When you approach this issue analytically, it becomes surprisingly simple to comprehend. Here are a few of the best colleges along with an estimated number of seats overall.

  • IIM Ahmedabad - More than 400
  • IIM Bangalore - More than 400
  • IIM Calcutta - More than 400
  • IIM Lucknow - More than 400
  • XLRI - Around 360
  • FMS - Approximately 200
  • SP Jain - Around 240

There are more than 2400 seats available if you only take the aforementioned colleges into account, and most students who are converting to those institutions will likely choose them over Kozhikode or Indore. The majority of those on the first list who convert also receive calls from these colleges, which convert them.

As a result, there is a significant overlap of candidates, which causes Indore and Kozikode to move up the waitlist quickly. Please keep in mind that the number of buffer calls made also affects how far along the waitlist a person is. Maybe the high waitlist movement is being caused by I and K making fewer buffer calls.

Are the job profiles offered at MDI Gurgaon on par with IIMs like LIK, not ABC? How much effort does one have to put into his future to get on par with the IIM graduates if one graduate from there?

AR

IIML is clearly superior to MDI in non-marketing specializations in terms of placement. However, IIM I, K, and MDI are generally equal in terms of placements, except for a few banks that specifically seek out the IIM tag at I&K. If you work equally hard at either campus and all other operational factors are constant, you will likely end up in a similar position whether you choose MDI or I or K. However, as mentioned before, IIML still has the edge and requires more effort if you're in the finance or consulting field.

If you're interested in MDI, it's worth noting that recent placement reports show more and more prestigious finance and consulting companies are visiting the campus. This has helped MDI deliver well-rounded placements. So, if you're willing to put in the work, MDI could be a good option for you.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of a PGP through IIM Kozhikode?

SL
Salman Liyakath Posted On : November 11th, 2022
PGDM In Finance and Strategy from Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode (Graduated 2018)

Some major advantages and disadvantages of a PGP through IIM Kozhikode are:

Advantages

  • IIM Tag: IIM Kozhikode is the 5th best IIM. So the IIM title is enough for you to find a launch or start your own business.

  • Faculty: IIM Kozhikode has the most experienced faculty.

  • Peers: You will find people from diverse backgrounds and will stay highly motivated

  • Campus: The infrastructure of IIM Kozhikode is more like a resort than that of a B School

  • Campus Life is less stressful and you can enjoy your college days.

Disadvantage: Despite being the food capital of the state, Kozhikode has little to offer. The vegetarian options are also scanty.

These advantages and disadvantages might seem different from anyone else’s perspective.

How is JBIMS compared to IIM L, K?

AJ
Arshit Jain Posted On : March 3rd, 2023
M.M.S. in Finance, Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies (Graduated 2021)

It is advised not to consider the new IIMs in the same league as L, K, and JBIMS. Among L, K, and JBIMS, IIM Lucknow should be placed first. Despite JBIMS being older than IIM Lucknow, IIM Lucknow boasts greater diversity and a more established brand.

In terms of personal preferences, both IIM Kozhikode and JBIMS have their own strengths and weaknesses. When it comes to placement, alumni base, and return on investment, JBIMS has the upper hand.

However, the campus of IIM Kozhikode is unmatched and offers an unrivaled business school experience that is not present in JBIMS. Some might argue that the IIM brand is stronger than that of JBIMS, but IIM Kozhikode, as a 25-year-old institution, has created its own brand reputation, while JBIMS, a 65-year-old institution, is highly respected in the corporate world.

It is also worth mentioning that the median placement of JBIMS has exceeded 22 lakhs this year, while that of IIM Kozhikode is around 20 lakhs. While it is known that some students have left IIM Kozhikode and IIM Lucknow to attend JBIMS, it is also likely that the reverse has occurred.

In conclusion, the suggested order would be IIM Lucknow > JBIMS > IIM Kozhikode.

What should I choose between IIM Kozhikode and NITIE considering placements (acads: 88/77/64, 22 months exp in IT)?

AY
Amit Yadav Posted On : February 1st, 2024
PGP from Indian Institute of Management Lucknow (2021)

While selecting an MBA college, all the other factors become secondary to placements.

Top MBA colleges have similar visiting companies and almost equal average packages. What makes a difference is whether you will be shortlisted for recruitment or not. The minimum grade requirement depends upon the average score of the respective batch.

Considering your academic record, you are an average student. At IIMK, the average batch score is around 90%. This is because it has some of the most brilliant students. But it is difficult for an average student to match such high grades. Especially because of the system of relative grading at IIMK.

NITIE follows absolute grading, and the batch average is around 80%. This makes it a haven for GEM. NITIE does not only cater to the supply chain industry, although it is the biggest name for this sector. Its graduates do very well in other sectors like Marketing as well.

Thus, I would recommend you select NITIE over IIM Kozhikode.

Which is a better option, IIM Kozhikode or MDI Gurgaon?

SP
Smit Parmar Posted On : November 14th, 2022
IIM Kozhikode PGP 2018-2022

Most people consider IIM Kozhikode a better option than MDI Gurgaon. But in reality, MDI has many lesser-known features that might help you take the right decision:

  • MDI Gurgaon has the best faculty in finance so it’s the best option for the finance stream.

  • The curriculum taught here is very much similar to the skills sought by the industry

  • A large number of students get into consulting companies. More than 10 companies visit MDI every year.

  • Low batch strength, which means proper attention to each student

  • The No Reservation policy makes the admissions here solely merit-based

Although IIM Kozhikode has some excellent features, MDI Gurgaon lacks the public eye so it’s necessary you know its reality before blindly trusting IIM Kozhikode.

What percentile do I need for IIM Kozhikode/Shillong with 78%, 87% and 6.82 CGPA (UG)?

SP
Shivam Pandey Posted On : November 11th, 2022
M.B.A. from Indian Institute of Management Shillong (Gradyared

78% won’t be enough to get you into IIM Shillong. You need at least 80% in your 10 and 12 grades. So we can say that for the final selection you must have 98 percentile. Other criteria to be considered are:

  • For engineers: Score of above 84 or 85 in 10th and 12th with min 8.0+ in undergraduate

  • For non-engineers: Score of above 80 in 10th and 12th with min 7.5 in undergraduate

This criterion is subject to change every year. Other factors that affect admissions are:

  • Your performance in the interview

  • Gender

  • Undergraduate stream

Both the IIMs will require above 85 to get admission. The eligibility criteria for IIM Kozhikode are a bit more strict than that of IIM Shillong. The minimum overall and sectional cutoff required for admission to IIM Kozhikode will remain 85 percentile and 75 percentile respectively for General category candidates.

Which is better, XLRI or IIMK?

RW
Ravish Wadwa Posted On : June 14th, 2021
Director at ReGraduate | MBA, FMS Delhi

It is a bit naïve to compare XLRI to IIMK. Among the two, XLRI is definitely a better choice, being one of the oldest Business Schools in the country.

The points below provide a brief overview of both the institutes and some valid highlights to support the choice.

  • XLRI is a lot more established institute than IIMK, with a lot of experience over time.
  • For most MBA aspirants, XLRI is the first choice among the two. It is a fact that XLRI is not very far in ranking and facilities from institutes like IIM A, B, C, ISB, FMS, etc.
  • Considering the placements in both institutes, XLRI offers an average salary of Rs. 20.1 LPA to students whereas, for IIM K, the average package is Rs. 17.8 LPA.
  • The roles offered in XLRI and the quality of recruiting companies visiting XLRI are better than those in IIM K.
  • The batch size of XLRI is 180 students, whereas the batch size of IIM K is 382 students. So, it is quite obvious that it has an impact on placement as a smaller batch has greater chances of getting placed than a larger batch.
  • XLRI is considered the best institute in India for doing an MBA in HR. So, students interested in HR can blindly opt for the institute.

Therefore, students having an XLRI interview conversion should definitely go for it, having got a chance in such an excellent institute.

Is it better to study an MBA in FMS Delhi or IIM Kozhikode ?

AB
Aditi Battacharjee Posted On : April 27th, 2022
Master of Business Administration Degrees, PES University

FMS Delhi is better for an MBA. The institute is ahead of IIM Kozhikode in terms of fees, placement, ROI, cutoff, and other aspects.

FMS Delhi fees are only INR 1.92 lakhs, while the average CTC for the institute is INR 32.4 LPA. So, the return on investment is pretty good. Around 100+ companies participate in the placement drive each year.
