While selecting an MBA college, all the other factors become secondary to placements.

Top MBA colleges have similar visiting companies and almost equal average packages. What makes a difference is whether you will be shortlisted for recruitment or not. The minimum grade requirement depends upon the average score of the respective batch.

Considering your academic record, you are an average student. At IIMK, the average batch score is around 90%. This is because it has some of the most brilliant students. But it is difficult for an average student to match such high grades. Especially because of the system of relative grading at IIMK.

NITIE follows absolute grading, and the batch average is around 80%. This makes it a haven for GEM. NITIE does not only cater to the supply chain industry, although it is the biggest name for this sector. Its graduates do very well in other sectors like Marketing as well.

Thus, I would recommend you select NITIE over IIM Kozhikode.

Considering your past academic record, it will be better to choose NITIE. Getting a shortlist during placement will be easier. NITIE is aptly known as the Mecca of Supply Chain. But the placement offers are not just limited to this sector. Recruiters from other sectors such as Finance, Marketing, Analytics, Consulting, etc. also visit the campus placements. NITIE placements 2022 concluded with an average CTC of INR 25.41 LPA.

Your question raises serious concerns among many other aspirants too, thus before deciding which institute you should go for, here are certain points you might want to take into account.

  1. Faculty: Your field of study will highly depend on the faculty’s contribution. It is required that you understand their insights, research works, and other essential components before deciding which institute comes with the better one.
  2. Course Curriculum: It is known that every B-school will technically follow the same base for curriculum, with fewer or more additions to the subject course. You should understand the differences between the curriculums both institutes have, and decide upon it only later on.
  3. Alumni: An institute is expected to come with better brand value and placement offers based on whether or not they have a good alumni base. Any institute that has more batches in the best positions will supposedly perform well.
  4. Location: You should always go for convenient choices. For instance, a B-school situated in Mumbai will be able to have more placement offers, opportunities, and guest lectures as opposed to the institutes located elsewhere at the different corners of the country, like North East.
  5. Placement: You should understand the placement reports, and on the basis of them, you must look for firms or roles that best fit you. Alongside these reports, you should consider discussing the prospects with students of the same institute.

Here is a placement report of both institutes,

Institutes IIM, Kozhikode NITIE, Mumbai
Highest Salary Package INR 46.88 LPA INR. 44 LPA
Average Salary Package INR. 22.5 LPA INR. 20.85 LPA
Top Recruiting Companies Accenture Strategy, Amazon, American Express EY, IDFC First, ETLI, Landmark Group, Flipkart

NITIE, in case, can be a better choice in terms of pursuing Operations. The institute often sees a spiked range of visiting companies for roles based on Operations. On the other hand, IIM Kozhikode can provide better placement offers, brand value, and course curriculum.
