NIT Rourkela has a well-established Electrical Engineering department that is delivered by some extremely qualified and learned faculties. The branch is said to provide a plethora of opportunities both in terms of placements as well as research. Here is a comprehensive description of the branch based on common aspects
- Curriculum: NIT Rourkela Electrical Engineering curriculum is well-updated and par with that of IIT KGO, one of the oldest IITs. The concepts are taught by a highly experienced facility that comprises professors who are specialists in their fields.

Is it better to take a lower branch in NIT Rourkela or a good branch in CET, BBSR?
In my opinion, choosing a lower branch at NIT Rourkela is better than choosing a good branch at CET BBSR. Whenever choosing a college, always give preference to the institute over the branch. This is because choosing a bad institute can limit your experience no matter how good the branch is. The poor faculty, infrastructure, and opportunities will affect your academics, and the ‘good branch’ will not come to your rescue.
On the contrary, an average branch but a good institute will provide more scope in terms of exposure and academics. The right guidance from an experienced faculty will provide opportunities even in a low branch. Moreover, one can never be certain of the right branch for themselves as they have limited knowledge of the courses taught.
So, it's wise to choose a lower branch at NIT Rourkela than to go for a better branch at CET BBSR.
Which is the best NIT among SVNIT Surat, MNIT Jaipur, VNIT Nagpur, NIT Rourkela, NIT Calicut for CSE?

MNIT records good placements for B.Tech CS. Some companies that recruit B.Tech CS students from its campus are- Qualcomm, Infosys, Amazon, Adobe, DE Shaw, Morgan Stanley, Fidelity, Deloitte, Samsung and Bosch.
NITC and MNIT are the best among these colleges, for B.Tech CS. Others are ranked in a descending order of my personal preference.

Does NIT Rourkela have good girl's hostel rooms?
The two girls' hostels available at NIT Rourkela are C.V.Raman Hall of Residence and K.M.Shaw Hall of Residence. During your admission into NIT Rourkela, you will be allotted one of these two hostels.
C.V. Raman Hall of Residence-
- It has four blocks- A,B,C and D with single seater rooms. These rooms have a LAN port, two tables, and shelves where you can keep your belongings.
- The rooms are bright and airy with curtains.
- The problem is that because of the high admission rate to NIT Rourkela and the lack of rooms for so many students, two students share a single room with one bed for each.
- The washrooms and mirrors are clean. You will get a shoe stand near your room. The third floor has a wide and nice terrace. The corridors are spacious.
- The mess food varies with the caterer who provides the service at the time.
- Postgraduate students share rooms during the first year. In the second year, they are allotted single rooms.
Kiran Majumdar Shaw Hall of Residence-
- It also consists of 4 blocks. Two blocks have single seater rooms, while two have 3 seater rooms. The rooms are very spacious. You get shelves for your books and cupboards for your clothes.
- It is smaller than C.V. Raman Hall but has a better mess.
- P.G. students get a 3 seater room during their first year and a single seater in their second year.
The girls hostels at NIT Rourkela are not the best, however, they are quite decent. The best part is that you will enjoy your time over there and make endless memories.
Which is best: NIT Calicut, NIT Bhopal, NIT Jaipur, or NIT Rourkela?
Honestly, it totally depends on your choice. If you want as per placement rankings then NIT Calicut surely beats NIT Rourkela which in turn is better than NIT Jaipur and NIT Bhopal. As some of my friends studied at NIT Rourkela, I can assure you that the overall campus is improving very fast. Also they offer good placements.
- Many famous companies are hiring a lot of students now.
- If you are seeking a good infrastructure, NIT Rourkela is the best of all NITs.
- For overall rankings, you can refer to MHRD, National Institute Ranking Framework (NIRF).
- Certain departments at NITR leave a lot to be desired, where Calicut has the edge.
- All is better than Bhopal and Jaipur in placements though. However, in terms of infrastructure, campus life, hostel life, sports facilities, the overall holistic development of an individual NIT Rourkela is a good option.

- Maintain a good balance between enjoying your college life and focusing on your studies.
- Don’t mug up the concepts, rather try to understand them thoroughly. This will help you in the long run.
- Actively participated in the ongoing campus activities and make sure you are well-involved in extracurricular activities
- Join a club or team only if you are genuinely interested in it and not for the sake of getting a certificate.
- Identify your interests and passions and start working on them.
- Attend the minimum number of classes so that you don’t get detailed due to poor attendance.
- Establish a good bond with your professors as well as seniors.

Which is better: IIT Dhanbad or NIT Rourkela?
NIT Rourkela stood at 16th position and IIT (ISM Dhanbad) stood at 17th position in the NIRF 2023 Rankings for Engineering Colleges in India. These rankings are provided by the MHRD itself. IIT (ISM) Dhanbad is a good institution and holds the IIT tag since 2016. However, according to me, NIT Rourkela is better than many of the IITs, especially the new ones.
NIT R has a 1200 acre campus filled with greenery, multiple hostels with proper accommodation for boys and girls, and the facility of 1 Bhk flats for married Ph.D. scholars within the campus premises at a minimum fee. It also has a very good administrative block. NIT Rourkela is a better choice for teaching, placement, and research work.
According to me, NIT Rourkela is a better college than IIT (ISM) Dhanbad.
