Which one is the best - IIT Indore, IIT Bhubaneswar, IIT Gandhinagar or IIT Jodhpur?

AR
Aman Rawat Posted On : August 13th, 2020
Studied Electrical Engineering & Computer Science at Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar (2019)

IIT Indore is the best of all three IITs. It has very good research facilities in comparison to the other institutes and is rapidly improving. Since every other institution mentioned above is an IIT, so, there shall be always better opportunities in comparison to any other Engineering college in India. Also, IIT Bhubaneswar has a very good campus life and teaching faculty. It always stands at par in comparison to old IITs.

NIRF rankings are given to institutes according to the availability of facilities in various fields in the institute by MHRD. Faculty, campus life, and research facilities must be very good for an institute with good NIRF ranking. As Gandhinagar and Bhubaneswar are the capital cities, they lead to better connectivity and other metro facilities.

Campus life is always peaceful in any IIT since they are constructed in specially chosen places and they grow rapidly and simultaneously with other IITs. But the quality of teaching and the teaching methods vary from one institute to another. IIT- BHU and IIT Indore have their own campus with good hostel facilities while IIT Gandhinagar has its permanent campus but is still under construction.

The other way of choosing the institution is checking with the JEE advanced cut-off ranks. This would give an insight into the facilities in the institute and quality of the peer group as the quality of the peer group is the most important deciding factor in the selection of a campus.

Are IIT Bhubaneswar and IIT Indore comparable?

AC
Arjun Chatterjee Posted On : August 13th, 2020
M.Sc. from Indian Institute of Technology Indore (2019)

Both the institutes have their advantages and it entirely depends on what you are looking for. According to NIRF Rankings, IIT Indore ranks at 16 and IIT Bhubaneswar ranks at 26. But ranking changes every year so you should give preference to the branch over the institute.

IIT Bhubaneswar and IIT Indore both are decent IITs with good academics and placements. In 2019 IIT Bhubaneswar witnessed a big jump in placement in comparison to previous years in some streams in B.Tech. In 2019, a total of 89 companies visited the campus for recruitment. Many famous companies such as Amazon, Adobe, Accenture, Akash Institute, DELL, Delta Power, FIITJEE, Honeywell, INTEL technology, ISRO, IOCL, Jindal Stainless Ltd, KEC International, Microsoft, MathWorks, Mastercard, PNB Metlife, TATA BSNL, TATA steel, TATA Advance System, Thermax, TETCOS, TESCO, UHG and other companies as well recruited students from IIT Bhubaneswar.

Around 89.55 % of placement was recorded at the close of the session in this IIT last year. The average domestic CTC offered was around INR 11.44 LPA. Whereas, the highest CTC offered went up to INR 39 LPA. IIT Bhubaneswar recently signed MoU with many universities for various purposes like research and student exchange. The institute also collaborates with foreign universities such as the University of Warwick, University of Southampton, University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, University of Western Ontario, University of New York, University of North Dakota USA, and McGill University. Which presents the students of this institution with excellent internship and research opportunities.

IIT Indore witnessed a 99% placement rate in placement drive for 2018-2019. Students were offered an average annual package of 18.86 LPA. The highest domestic package offered was 36.5 LPA whereas the international package was 6 million Yen which roughly amounts to 43 LPA. Top recruiters at this IIT include Google, Amazon, Microsoft, Goldman Sachs, Arcesium, DE Shaw, etc.

So, choose the institute based on which branch you are interested in and which IIT is doing better at that specific branch.

What should i choose between IIT Indore (cse) and IIT Delhi (chemical engineering)?

PP
Pratik Parikh Posted On : April 11th, 2023
Lives in Bangalore

For an engineering student, his choice of branch is very crucial as it is the determining factor of his career. The institute is important no doubt but only for 4 years. For the rest of your life, your branch will shape your career more than anything.

The scope of Chemical Engineering is very wide and covers a humongous range of fields like

  • Oil and Gas industry
  • Petrochemical industry
  • Fertilizer industry
  • Nuclear industry
  • Steel industry
  • Paint industry
  • Pharmaceutical industry
  • Cement industry

Chemical Engineering graduates are sought by the above industries at large.

The work of a chemical engineer is to operate the plants optimally. He is also responsible for designing the plants along with a team of other branch engineers. India has less scope in this industry in comparison to abroad. With topics covered like thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and heat transfer the branch has more of a physics element than a chemical element.

It’s completely on you which industry or nature of work you are willing to go for. It’s important to note that the career growth of a chemical engineer will not be as fast-paced as that of a CS graduate but the wait will be worth it in the end.

Is it better to do chemical engineering at the IIT Madras or computer engineering at IIT Indore?

RS
Ronit Sharma Posted On : March 31st, 2023
Lives in Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh, India

Both the programs, Chemical Engineering at IIT Madras and Computer Engineering at IIT Indore offers excellent courses and opportunities. However, the choice of the program is more of a personal decision as it depends on career goals, personal interests, and other criteria. It's not a hidden fact that Computer Engineering has a wider scope in almost all sectors in comparison to Chemical engineering. So obviously it is a safe option, but what if you take a specific branch just for placements and then regret it later?

If you take Chemical you can also change your branch to Computer later but it won't be possible Vive Versa. You must decide after considering all factors and most importantly your interests. Find out what makes you happy the most out of coding, data analysis, or research in a chemical lab, finding solutions for medicinal products, health, synthetic materials, and so on.

There are examples of IITians dropping out to chase their dreams after realizing they were chasing the wrong branch. Only you can identify your innermost driving factor that will sustain your happiness later on in life.
