If I score 150 marks in CUSAT CAT exam what will be my rank and can I get into any of the branch there?

DB

CUSAT exams are of 750 marks also the CUSAT CAT exam is hard to give. A score of 150 is considered an average score.

  • Getting a score of 150 in CUSAT CAT exam will get you an approximate rank of around 6000 to 8000. Considering this, you will get a chance at the IT branch or some other core branch.
  • It may also be possible that you may get into EEE or ECE although the chances of that happening are less but still not zero.
  • These all choices will be for the second CUSAT campus during the real-time allotments.
  • The trends in the spot allotments for the past few years show the same thing and students belonging to the general category benefit from it and get into some core branches.
  • Having any kind of reservation will definitely bring you closer to being selected without a doubt.

Although one important thing to be noted is that this trend can change at any given day or any given time because the majority of the students are keeping an eye out for CUSAT due to the KTU not working properly so this, in turn, will cause the admission process to hamper up.

The spot rounds of allotments in CUSAT have proven to be of more help in this situation. So it is advised to visit all the spot allotments of CUSAT. In the previous year, students with 10,000-13,000 rank got admitted in the final spot allotment during the beginning of first-year classes.

  • First of all, just do not think about rushing on the marks. Study well, work on the concepts, try to finish the syllabus, and manage your time well.
  • And secondly, coming to marks, well if you notch up about 300 then, you will surely be in the top 1500, and a 250 + will also get you a decent rank within 3000.

The competition is quite high at CUSAT over the years, and the trend continues. So, try to give your best. Manage your time well and have confidence in your hard work, you'll score well.

Is Kerala technological university better than CUSAT?

UM
Udit Mundra Posted On : March 23rd, 2021
B.Tech from Cochin University Of Science and Technology (2011)

In my opinion, CUSAT is much better than KTU and there are multiple reasons why. One of the only reasons why KTU could be better than CUSAT is the fact that results are released within a month of conducting exams. So if you have deadlines coming up or are applying somewhere, you will not have to wait too long. CUSAT does not follow this scheme. Although recently, they have changed this scheme.

Additionally, the choice between these two colleges will heavily depend on the branch you are planning on applying to. As you know, every place will have its own pros and cons. The points below should probably help you gain some insight:

  • KTU and CUSAT are state universities. Moreover, they are both UGC and AICTE approved institutes. A plus point with CUSAT is that it has been accredited with NAAC grade A.
  •  CUSAT also has a relatively better and robust syllabus as compared to KTU. From my knowledge, it is tougher than NITs and possibly nearly equivalent to the syllabus taught in BITs and IITs.

If you want to compare, you should take a look at the first-year syllabus taught at both places.

  • CUSAT also has better faculty. Most of them hold a Ph.D. or are highly experienced individuals in their field of study.
  • Moreover, CUSAT is ranked among the top 1000 universities in the world whereas NITs themselves are not on the list.
  • If you are concerned about placements, you don’t need to worry about them. The highest package offered at CUSAT is INR 15 LPA with an average package of INR 4.7 LPA.
  • Major recruiters at the college include Cisco, L&T, and TCS whereas when it comes to KTU most students are of the opinion that only 30% of them have been placed.
  • Another major plus point is that the Engineering branch has been accredited under tier 1 colleges by NBA.
  • Lastly, the campus also plays a pivotal role when it comes to choosing between the two. My friends would describe it as the dream campus with exciting opportunities.

From this, my advice to you would be to definitely consider CUSAT over KTU for your studies. Your career will be set and you will have a plethora of opportunities open for you.

How good are the placements for B.Tech in IT students at CUSAT?

SS
Sulagna Saha Posted On : July 20th, 2021
Studied at Cochin University of Science and Technology (2019)

If you are looking for placements for CS jobs, a lot of branches from engineering are eligible for it. These include IT, EC, CS, and even EE sometimes. These branches are included from both campuses, CUSAT and CUSEK.

Many students from CUSEK also travel to CUSAT to attend placements. A few students from M.Tech and MCA are also eligible to appear for these placements.

  • The criteria for eligibility differ from company to company but if you have a CGPA of 8.3 (75%) and no other backlogs.
  • You can appear for almost every company that visits the college for placements.
  • Once you have qualified past the eligibility criteria, you will realize that there is not much distinction between IT and CS branch students.
  • Most companies end up treating all students equally.
  • If you are looking to target specific areas for your development, programming skills, and interview prepare the ones you should focus on.
  • Other than this, your class rank, CGPA as well other past backlogs will not matter if you ace the first two.
  • Next, if you are looking to rank ease of placements branch-wise and package size, computer science is the leader.
  • This is followed by IT, SF and EC at a tie, EE, and lastly ME and CE tying off again.
Categories IT at CUSAT
Highest CTC 29 LPA (Cisco)
Average CTC 6-8 LPA (TCS Digital, Nissan, Soti, IBM, and Tally)
Lowest CTC 3-3.8 LPA (TCS, Wipro, EY and Infosys)

In my opinion, securing placements for CS is not that difficult. Students with pending backlogs also are placed so you do not have much to be worried about. Just do your best.

What is the rank of CUSAT in India?

SK
Shishir Kharbanda Posted On : April 5th, 2021
B. Tech(Hons) Civil Engineering, Cochin University Of Science and Technology (2018)

Firstly, you should clearly know that CUSAT ranks in the Top 100 Universities in India. In 2017, it ranked #36 and from then in 2021 it has climbed down to #62. Nevertheless, it is still a good university because of the number of published research works and a few of its excellent departments.

Since a university is judged on different parameters of academic excellence, faculty, facilities, tuition costs, etc; it'll be unjust on highlighting it solely on the basis of its rank. The courses it offers must be judged on the same parameters. So here are some highlights-

  • The engineering department is distributed in two campuses- the first is in SOE in Kochi and the CUCEK, which is known as the second campus is in Alleppey.
  • Within these, some of the branches like Naval Architecture, Fire and Safety, Information Technology, and Computer Science are highly competitive and get good placements with names like TCS, Wipro, Infosys, Cisco, etc.

Here is a placement table as well-

Batch

2020

Number of Offers Received

300

Number of Students Placed

595

Number of Companies Participated

35

Highest Package Offered

INR 24 LPA

Lowest Package Offered

INR 4.7 LPA

Top Recruiters

Cisco, Larsen and Toubro, TCS

So as you see, 595 students have placed last year and the CUSAT placement officer Jacob Elias informed that more than students have been offered more than 17 LPA in 2020 and this year some have been placed with an amount of over INR 44 LPA.

What is the difference between spot admission and real time admission in CUSAT?

RG
Rajashree Ghosh Posted On : July 29th, 2021
Studied at Calcutta University (2019)

One of my friends is from CUSAT. I have gathered some facts about spot admission and real-time admission from him. So I will be sharing these which might help you answer your question.

  • There will be a few rounds of counseling, and all seats will be filled according to rank, reservation, and other factors.
  • Certain vacancies will arise as a result of certain candidates failing to pay fees/submit all required paperwork or canceling their admission to enroll elsewhere.
  • These positions are filled through Spot admissions, in which all candidates in the rank list are invited to appear and select their preferred branch/campus if space is available.
  • A few days before the date of Spot admission, the available positions are announced on the Internet.
  • Real-time admission is a more dynamic approach in which vacated seats in spot admission are filled instantly from among those candidates who are physically present at the session and are ranked accordingly.

Remember one thing that there is no advance notice for vacant seats, and it is not uncommon for candidates who have already been admitted to particular branches to choose other branches/campuses.

Which college is better, CUSAT or BIT Sindri?

UG
Unayana Ghose Posted On : July 9th, 2022
BE Mechanical from Birsa Institute of Technology, Sindri

For core branches BIT Sindri is better. CUSAT focuses on branches such as Environmental Science, Marine, etc. CUSAT fees are a little higher. If you aren’t getting your choice of branch at BITSindri, you can choose CUSAT.

BIT Sindri fees are economical. It has a good student culture, the seniors are very helpful. BIT Sindri placements are excellent. During the recent placement drive, students received an average CTC of INR 4.51 LPA. While the highest CTC offered was INR 10 LPA.

Is polymer science and engineering good in CUSAT?

AS
Ananya Shankar Posted On : July 20th, 2021
Studied at Delhi University (2019)

The program of Polymer Science and Engineering offered by CUSAT is one of the best in the country. The department of Polymer Science and Engineering is very old and well established. For my cousin, joining the course has been one of the best decisions that she ever made for her career.

  • The alumni of this department of CUSAT are working in many major polymer-based companies.
  • Only a few institutions in India offer this course to students who wish to pursue Polymer Science and Engineering.
  • The course is more concerned about the fields of sciences rather than engineering.
  • The faculty members of the institution are very well qualified and experienced in their respective fields.
  • The majority of the students who get enrolled in this program get recruited by companies in the Tyre industry.
  • Since the intake of students is limited, which is around 20 students each year for bachelor's, the relationship which develops between the different batches and the faculty members is very strong.
  • The placement cell of the University is extremely active and provides full support to the students during recruitment drives.
  • Some major recruiters include Reliance Industries Limited, SRF Limited, Apollo Tyres Limited, and CEAT Ltd.
Categories Polymer Science Engineering at CUSAT
Course Fee 70,560
Course Duration 4 years
Highest CTC 8-10 LPA
Average CTC 3.5-5 LPA

I think this would help you in understanding the program of Polymer Science and Engineering which is being offered by CUSAT in a better manner.

How is CUSAT for M.tech in polymer science?

KB
Kakoli Bose Posted On : July 20th, 2021
B.Tech Polymer Science and Engineering, Cochin University Of Science and Technology (2020)

An M.Tech in Polymer Science from CUSAT is a good option if you are planning your master’s and doctoral programs. It can offer you the hands-on experience of your subject. But the chances for the placements for the MTech student are very less from CUSAT. As most of the companies prefer BTech students rather than the students who completed their master’s degree i.e. MTech.

M.Tech students do not get enough placement opportunities. If you go through the past placement records, you will see that only one or two companies allow MTech students. Although, in 2020, MRF tires have invited only MTech students for the 2021 placements.

The industry also starting to recruit more M.Tech students as most BTech students after doing the job for almost two years pursue higher studies that in turn is a great loss to the company as the company spends long hours teaching them various skills to give their project a successful ending. So most of the companies are preferring students who have completed an MTech degree and are ready to work for their professional career only. This is a very big advantage to all the students pursuing MTech polymer sciences from CUSAT.

You may know that in M.Tech the second year is project-based both in college as well as in the company you are pursuing your internship. If you can even show your efficiency, you may get recruited by the company, once you complete your master's degree.

So, securing a decent job offer depends a lot on your skills and efficiency.
