How's NIT Agartala for the mechanical branch?

Pros
- The professors are very approachable and assist you academically.
- The pedagogy adopted by professors is excellent and they ensure students understand the concepts through ppts, animations, and videos.
- Some of the faculties are very knowledgeable in their respective field of interest.
- NIT Agartala Mechanical Engineering Department is one of the most prestigious and well-known branches in the whole of North-East India.
- The placement scenario is decent and around 80% of placement scenario has been recorded recently.
Cons
- The lab facilities are outdated and most of the equipment is obsolete. The equipment of Fluid Machines Lab hasn’t been working for a long time now.
- There is not even a single program to learn designing software like CATIA, Solidworks, AutoCAD, or other software that form a crucial part of the Mechanical Branch.
- The department does not have provisions for coaching for GATE, CAT, GRE, or other competitive exams.
- Professors lay more emphasis on getting good grades and packages rather than learning and gaining knowledge. No importance is given to research work or exploring new insights into technology and Entrepreneurship.
- Some of the faculties are underqualified and have no teaching or communication skills at all.

By ‘teaches Management like Engineering’ I assume what you mean is Management studies at IIM Lucknow are more strict, mundane, and repetitive. In this regard, I refuse to accept your claim as the reality is far from this.
People graduating from these institutes are youngsters with an age group of 20-25 so there is very little impact of the institutes' pedagogy on the learner’s ability to learn. These candidates are likely to be more serious regarding their growth and even sacrifice the fun of a typical B School life just to reach new heights. Anyone with such a mindset is likely to fare well anywhere irrespective of the choice of Institute.
I am going to specifically pinpoint the scenario at FMS because there is a general conception that FMS has a relatively chilled ambiance. The truth is I have seen many students working tremendously hard in their 2 years. They explore much more than academics and take part in many extracurricular activities because they know it’s their last opportunity before they enter the corporate world. The attendance rules although stricter than that at IIM Lucknow are no direct indication of the general discipline and the rigor of the curriculum. Every institute has its own tailored learning environment and it’s up to the students to make the most out of it.
People just ‘flock’ to a particular B School because of the sheep mentality. Rather their decisions are based on continuous analysis of various factors like tags, peer group, intended specialization, placement opportunities, personal goals.

Yes, everyone who clears the entrance exam for MPhil Clinical Psychology at NIMHANS is called for an interview. However, not everyone gets selected because the number of seats available is very low in comparison to the shortlisted students.
The interviewers don’t ask much technical questions and usually assess your personality and talents. The most common question asked is ‘Why do you want to join this specific course?’. So, it’s better to prepare for it beforehand. Sometimes candidates might be enquired about their post-graduation thesis.

What is the basis of admission at Tezpur university?
The criteria for admission to Tezpur University vary according to different courses. The details are as follows:
- For B.tech, you have to appear for JEE Mains examination based on its score your application would be considered.
- However, 60% of seats for B.Tech are reserved for North East students and 40% of seats are available for all the other candidates across the country.
- For post-graduation courses, Tezpur University conducts its own entrance examination named TUEE. Which is conducted in both the northeastern part and across the major cities of the country like Mumbai, Kolkata, etc.
- Tezpur University accepts GATE scores for the M.Tech program.

Which is comparatively better, Silchar Medical College or NEIGRIHMS?
I belong to Silchar and pursued my MBBS from NEIGRIHMS. This makes me qualified to talk about both. Here are some details on both these institutions-
NEIGRIHMS:
- It is a central government institute with a state-of-the-art infrastructure. The MBBS faculty is well experienced and dedicated, though less in number.
- After completing your UG from this institute, you’ll be well-equipped with knowledge.
- Alumni from NEIGRIHMS go on to other prestigious institutions for their PGs. The hospital has a huge patient load, with cases coming in from all across the North East. So as a UG student, you’ll be at a surplus of cases.
- The climate and people of Shillong are both really good. The college campus is beautiful. It is the cleanest of all medical colleges in India.
SMC:
- SMC is an old institute located in Assam. It has a huge alumni network, having been an alma mater to numerous successful medicos.
- But like other state government institutions, you’ll learn mostly from the PGs and your seniors. It has a lot more PG students than NEIGRIHMS where PG courses are at an infant stage. The seniors are friendly.
- The faculty is less in number. The patient load is high, and residents have to work a lot. But it is one of the worst-maintained medical colleges in terms of cleanliness.
If you are a domicile of Assam, it is better to do your MBBS from SMC. After your graduation, go for rural posting. After all this, you’ll become eligible for state PG quota. NEIGRIHMS has a very high competition for PG seats, and getting in for a UR student is especially difficult.
Both are equally good colleges, and you should choose between them based on your own preferences.
Is it really tough to get admission to NITIE Mumbai?
One of my friends studied at NITIE Mumbai. According to him, it offers five different programs including an interdisciplinary Fellow program and a 1-year PGPEX program. The other three programs are –
- Post Graduate Diploma in Industrial Engineering (PGDIE) which considers GATE score
- Post Graduate Diploma in Industrial Management (PGDIM)
- Post Graduate Diploma in Sustainability Management (PGDSM)
PGSIM and PGDSM consider CAT scores for admission. The process of admission for all three courses remains the same.
- First, you have to clear the respective exams for eligibility i,e GATE or CAT.
- Then you have to clear a certain cutoff set by the institute for getting a chance to sit for the GD and PI which are necessary for admission.
- And then later on you will get admission based on your performance in all these fields.
- The GD happens for close to 20-25 minutes which is followed by a PI which usually lasts for another 15-30 minutes.
The PGDIM course usually commands a percentile of more than 97 in CAT to sit for the GD/PI and then your overall score will determine your admission. For PGDIE, a score upwards of 750 in GATE is required for admission.
As far as toughness goes, scoring well in CAT and GATE, which are themselves pretty difficult exams, is the most important parameter.
Is this true that a student having just 40 percentile gets an admission in UBS Chandigarh on the basis of the good score in 10th & 12th?
UBS Chandigarh has an attractive reservation policy during the admission process. This makes this institute stand out from other colleges. They reserve 50% of the seats. The reservation is given to various categories, which include sports, defense, riot/terrorist victims, freedom fighters, NRI/foreign nationals, wards of Martyrs, wards of Kashmiri displaced persons, single girl child, cancer/aids/thalassemia patients, youth festival participants, rural area students, SC, ST, OBC, and PWD seats. The vacant seats will automatically be added to the rest of the non-reserved seats (general category).
You won’t be able to secure a seat in the 40 percentile, even if you had a good score in your 10th and 12th examinations. Admission is completely based on the merit list (reservation included). If you belong to the general category, then you should have scored a minimum of 90 percentile to secure a seat in this college. They usually give importance to the score in the entrance examination and your performance in the interview, not the percentile.
Why should I join IIM Ranchi over other 2nd generation IIMs?
You may be considering enrolling in IIM Ranchi or IIM Tiruchirappalli as a student. These are the top two IIMs among the second-generation IIMs, with IIM Ranchi being slightly better. However, there are several factors that you should consider when deciding which institution to attend.

Should I join NIT Srinagar in the current situation? How is the CSE Department of NIT Srinagar?
NIT Srinagar has almost 100% placement in the CSE branch. This year, the average package offered to BTech CSE was INR 13.8 LPA. The overall department CSE in NIT Agartala is pretty good. Some students even receive more than one offer. Its highest package is at par with that of other NITs.
The CSE students get a lot of free time to learn new skills and programming languages. Moreover, Srinagar offers a great location and climate making it an amazing choice for nature lovers.
Unless you are getting a better South Indian NIT, CSE at NIT Srinagar is a decent option and can be considered.
