What should I prefer, electrical or electronics and telecommunication at NIT Raipur?

AS
Abhay Shukla Posted On : April 1st, 2021
B.Tech Civil Engineering, National Institute of Technology, Raipur (2017)

For an Institute like NIT Raipur, both the branches of electrical or electronics telecommunication are worth taking. Below mentioned are some points about the branches which may help you in making a decision.

  • Both branches hold good placement statistics. Core companies usually opt for the electrical branch students while software-based companies go for the students of the electronics and telecommunication branch.
  • The Department of Electrical branch has a decent reputation in college as this is a core branch which follows all the discipline and regulations.
  • IES is open for the students for both the branches and thus choosing any one branch is no less than the other.
  • When it comes to academics and scoring well; the students of both branches are exceptionally good. Ms. Jaya Jha from the Electrical branch and Mr. Shivam Singh of Electronics and Telecommunications bagged AIR-1 in Graduate Aptitude Test.

You can’t go wrong with any of these two choices, so choose the branch that interests you more.

What should I choose considering the branch change opportunities, electrical at IIT Mandi or electrical at IIT Ropar?

PD
Prerona Dasgupta Posted On : March 31st, 2021
B.Tech Computer Science and Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology, Mandi (2020)

There is a branch change provision at IIT Mandi which is very lenient too. So if you are confused with your branch and you wish to change your branch in the future, then you should choose IIT Mandi.

One of my friends was in a similar situation a few years back and he opted for IIT Mandi for its flexible branch change policies. He was able to change his branch to CSE. To change your branch to CSE, you will need a CGPA of around 8.6.

IIT Mandi has a 50% branch change allowance whereas at IIT Roper it is 10%. To know more about the branch change rules you can visit the official website.

Which is better for a keralite, EE at IIT Mandi or engineering design at IIT Madras?

RS
Rohan Shah Posted On : March 20th, 2021
Studied at Indian Institute of Technology, Madras (2018)

For obvious reasons, ED in IIT Madras is better than EE from IIT Mandi.

Since, you are a Keralite, you need to travel across the entire length of India whenever you need to travel back and forth from your home. Moreover, the climate will also be a minus factor. In case of Chennai, you can travel overnight and reach your home. The people there will be more familiar to you as compared to those in Mandi.

Engineering Design -

  • It is an amalgamation of all the engineering disciplines in a crude sense which can be easily seen by their curriculum.
  • The curriculum includes doing coding, mechanical labs and civil engineering courses, it even includes Electrical Engineering.
  • BTech in Electrical Design is a 5 year Program as it includes a compulsory six month internship (an entire semester) in the final year and a project in the final year of the course. Whereas, the courses at other branches last for only 8 weeks.

To summarize, IIT Madras offers you everything that IIT Mandi has and a lot more than that.

Mandi is situated in Himachal Pradesh, it has a very pleasing scenery. But keeping in mind the distance, weather conditions and the ease of living for a Keralite, Chennai is a much better option.

Can one take ELE at PEC Chandigarh and then learn coding by himself in his free time and then get placed in an IT company like Microsoft, Google, Amazon etc.?

PD
Payel Dey Posted On : April 30th, 2021
B.E. Electrical Engineering, Punjab Engineering College, Chandigarh

I have two friends who are Electrical Engineering graduates from PEC and are currently working in a good IT company. One of them was also among the only two people who cracked directly written.

Being from an electrical background, it can be tough to learn coding in your free time and also cope up with your syllabus and keep your grades high. But if you are persistent you can definitely do it. You might also need to study some CS/IT subjects like DBMS while learning to code. As many students of the institute suggest to secure a job in an IT company you have to take off-campus routes, as most of the top companies are not open for interviews for the Electrical branch at PEC Chandigarh.

But yes, it is possible to land a job at an IT company even after completing ELE if you can learn to code properly and work hard enough to make yourself prepare for the job.

Which branch should I prefer at Nirma University, electrical engineering or civil engineering?

AS
Aheli Sharma Posted On : July 28th, 2021
Studied B.Tech at IIEST Shibpur (2019)

Some of my friends studied at Nirma University. According to them the decision about your branch should depend upon your interest.

  • If you have an inclination towards designing and constructing buildings, roads, pipelines, etc., and wish to learn all about it, then you should opt for Civil Engineering.
  • The most important part of this field is that you can get the chance to visualize various things in a practical way on the ground.
  • If you have an inclination towards electrical components and they are working, then you should opt for Electrical Engineering.
  • The basics of electrical engineering are taught in class 12th Physics. So, if you hold a keen interest in that then you should opt for it.
Categories Electrical at Nirma University Civil at Nirma University
Course Fee 7.24 lakh 7.24 LPA
Placement Percentage 80% 60-80%
Highest CTC 12-15 LPA 13 LPA
Average CTC 6-8 LPA 6 LPA
Recruiting Companies Phillips, Havells, Tech Mahindra, TCS, etc. Ambuja Cement, Reliance, JP Morgan, Adani, etc.

From the placement scenario, the department of Electrical Engineering is much better as compared to Civil Engineering. However, you should not opt for any branch by looking at its placement scenario. You must go for the branch that you are interested in as this decision is going to remain with you throughout your life.

Should I join IIIT Guwahati for ECE, or should I join NIT Silchar's EEE?

DB
Devdutta Bose Posted On : June 22nd, 2021
Studied at National Institute of Technology Silchar (2019)

Having a few friends studying in both of these institutes, I can provide you with some details based on my interaction with them. IIIT Guwahati and NIT Silchar are both institutes of national importance. The NIRF Ranking for Engineering 2020 is 66 and 46 respectively.

  • If you want to join the Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE) branch, IIIT Guwahati is the only choice because NIT Silchar does not offer this branch.
  • But for others, like Electronics and Communications Engineering (ECE), NITS will be the best selection.
  • Even the alumni of NITS are biased towards their institute.
  • The campus of IIIT Guwahati is new. The institute is well-equipped but yet far behind NITS.
  • IIT Guwahati has a weaker base of alumni. The reason is that it came into existence after NITS.

Criteria

NITS

IIIT Guwahati

Fee

INR 5.54 Lakhs

INR 9 Lakhs

Average CTC

INR 7.70 LPA

INR 10.20 LPA

Median CTC

INR 6.5 LPA

INR 5.5 LPA

Highest CTC

INR 35 LPA

INR 17 LPA

The faculty of NITS has a rich experience. Out of 209 faculty members, 195 are Ph.D. holders. Overall, NITS is a better choice for ECE.

What is your review of electrical engineering at Pondicherry Engineering College?

SR
Shreya Rao Posted On : July 28th, 2021
Studied at Calcutta University (2019)

Some of my friends who studied at Pondicherry Engineering College. They gave the college a fair rating of 3.5 out of 5. Leaving the part of active clubs and committees, every other aspect of the college is pretty nice.

  • In your third year, you will be given a chance to work on industrial projects.
  • PEC Pondicherry provides an all-round experience.
  • If you want to become an expert in your subject then this college is the best choice. But if you want placements, then you will face a little bit of difficulty but that is also eradicated in the software sector.
  • Most of the faculty members are well experienced and highly cooperative. EEE department has a very knowledgeable and helpful faculty.
Categories Electrical at Pondicherry Engineering College
Course Fee 2.20 lakh
Highest CTC 6-8 LPA
Average CTC 3.4 LPA
Recruiting Companies GE Healthcare, IBM, Cognizant, HCL, etc.

The seniors who have passed out from the EEE department have been working with tech giants like Qualcomm, GE, Panasonic, etc. Pondicherry Engineering College is a good college if you want to acquire knowledge but it holds an average reputation when it comes to placements.
