IIM Trichy is an institute that has demonstrated significant improvement in recent years and is focused on becoming one of the top 5 IIMs. It has a strong connection with industry, which is further strengthened by the presence of its Chennai Centre, which directly connects with industries across India. The institute also receives close mentorship from IIM Bangalore, allowing students to receive lectures from the best professors at both IIM Bangalore and IIM Calicut.

In terms of placements, IIM Trichy has consistently performed well. How would you rank IIM Udaipur, Trichy, Ranchi, and Raipur?

RB
Rahul Bisht Posted On : January 21st, 2023
MBA from Indian Institute of Management, Udaipur (Graduated 2021)

It is difficult to provide a definitive ranking of business schools as the best choice will depend on your individual priorities and goals. To determine which among IIM Udaipur, Trichy, Ranchi, and Raipur is the best fit for you, it is important to consider factors such as the curriculum and placement opportunities in your desired field, the focus on research, the availability of Students Exchange Programs and other opportunities for exposure, and the overall perception of the school.

If you have a specific field or area of focus in mind, you should look for a B-school that offers a strong curriculum and good placement prospects in that area. If you are interested in gaining hands-on research experience, you should consider schools that have a strong orientation toward research. If you are looking for opportunities to gain exposure and experience through programs like student exchange, you should consider schools with a strong track record in this area.

If you do not have a specific priority and are unable to identify a clear difference between the opportunities offered by different B-schools, you may want to consider their perception. While this can be difficult to quantify, their overall perception can impact the quality of your peers and the overall learning environment. To judge the perception of a B-school, you should do your own research and consider factors such as the reputation of the school, the accomplishments of its faculty and alumni, and the resources and support available to students. Ultimately, the best choice for you will depend on your personal goals and priorities.

Which is preferred: IITB, SJMSOM, or newer IIMs like Trichy, Ranchi, etc.?

TC
Tanuj Chandra Posted On : January 21st, 2023
MBA from Indian Institute of Management Ranchi

If you are considering attending a top 20 college in India and are looking for a competitive atmosphere, good infrastructure, a strong alumni network, and high salaries upon graduation, then IITB SJMSOM may be the better choice. However, it's worth noting that some of the courses offered at newer IIMs, such as IIM Trichy or IIM Ranchi's HR program, have gained a lot of recognition in recent years. While these institutes may not yet have the same level of prestige or alumni network as IITB, they should not be underestimated.

It's important to remember that salary outcomes are largely dependent on individual performance in business school. Even if you attend a younger IIM, you may still be offered a lower salary than a top-performing student at IITB if your results are not as strong. Ultimately, the best choice for you will depend on your personal priorities and the specific programs and resources offered at each institution.

How can I justify my 2 years of preparation with no work experience in the IIM Ranchi PGPHRM interview with the fact that I was preparing for the bank exams and CAT by myself?

SP
Satyam Pandey Posted On : January 20th, 2023
MBA from Indian Institute of Management Visakhapatnam (Graduated 2020)

It is common for IIM aspirants to misunderstand the nature of IIM PGPHRM interviews and the relationship between interview preparation and duration. IIM interviews are quite different from typical job interviews or other types of interviews. Rather than evaluating specific skills or knowledge, IIM interviews are designed to assess your core strengths, interests, and management traits. This means that even if you have been preparing for a different field or have taken a break from your studies, your chances of being accepted to an IIM are not necessarily diminished.

It is important to be able to explain any gaps in your education or career path in a positive light, such as by emphasizing your dedication and effort in pursuing your goals. While it may be frustrating to have lost time or to have failed to achieve a particular objective, like not being able to clear CAT, it is important to recognize that we all make choices and take risks in life. Ultimately, what is most important is that you are able to make an effort and learn from your experiences. As long as you are able to do this, you should not regret your choices.

Considering my interest in Finance and a prior IT work experience of 2.5 years, what should be the preference for me among IIFT Delhi, NMIMS Mumbai, and new IIMs IIM Ranchi, Trichy?

AS
Aarzoo Shah Posted On : January 20th, 2023
Studied at SVKM's NMIMS

When it comes to financing roles, NMIMS is generally seen as being on par with or even better than IIFT. One advantage of NMIMS is its location in Mumbai, which can be beneficial for students seeking finance roles. A decent number of finance companies visit the campus during placements, offering a good range of opportunities for students. However, it's worth noting that the competition for these roles can be quite intense, especially for students with engineering backgrounds. This is because finance companies often have a tendency to shortlist more students with commerce backgrounds for interviews.

That being said, if you are able to clear one or two levels of the CFA or FRM exams, it can become easier to get shortlisted for finance roles at NMIMS. Overall, when it comes to financing roles, NMIMS is generally seen as being on par with IIFT and better than the new IIMs.

Which is better: IIM Ranchi or MDI Murshidabad?

AA
Aakriti Ahuja Posted On : January 20th, 2023
Analyst at DebriN Synergy (company) (2015–present)

When it comes to comparing IIM Ranchi and MDI Murshidabad, there are a few key factors to consider. In terms of brand value among IIMs, IIM Ranchi may be considered better. However, it's worth noting that the fees at MDI Murshidabad are lower than those at IIM Ranchi.

One important consideration is the infrastructure of the two institutes. MDI Murshidabad has its own campus and hostel facilities onsite, while IIM Ranchi does not have a campus. This may be a factor for students who prefer on-campus housing. Additionally, while IIM Ranchi is known for its HRM program, MDI Murshidabad may be considered better for other specializations. Ultimately, the decision between these two institutes will depend on the individual student's priorities and needs.

How do you rate getting an MBA from a new IIM like IIM Ranchi or IIM Trichy? Should one wait a year and try getting into better B schools instead?

AA
Anamica Agarwal Posted On : January 20th, 2023
Ph.D from Indian Institute of Management Ranchi (Graduated 2017)

IIM Ranchi's MBA placement drive for 2022 saw 77 companies visit the campus for recruitment. The highest and average packages offered during this placement drive were INR 42 LPA and INR 16.62 LPA, respectively.

IIM Trichy's final placement report for 2022 showed that the institute attracted over 110 industry giants who offered a variety of job roles in Sales & Marketing, Finance, Consulting, IT & Analytics, Operations, and HR. The highest and average packages offered during this placement drive were INR 34 LPA and INR 17.01 LPA, respectively.

There are several ways to compare the quality of MBA programs at new IIMs such as IIM Ranchi and IIM Trichy. One method is to look at student performance and perception as reflected in B-school surveys. You can also try finding information about the experiences of graduates from these institutes. Another way to gauge the quality of an MBA program is to look at the performance of students in competitions, such as recruitment challenges, quizzes, paper presentations, and management fests. While these events can provide insight into student abilities, they may not necessarily reflect the capabilities of the faculty at a given institute.

To get a better understanding of the faculty of an MBA program, you may want to consider the learning approach of the program. A good MBA program will have faculty members who have both studied the subject area extensively and have practical experience in the field. You can also look at the clubs and events related to marketing at the institute, as well as any visiting faculty, guest lectures, workshops, or training that have been held in the last one to two years. A reputable institute should make this information publicly available.

Is 1160 a good score in the SAT to get a call from the IIM Ranchi IPM program?

RS
Radhika Srivastava Posted On : January 19th, 2023
IIM Ranchi

People with scores of 1500 or higher often aim for the IIM Ranchi IPM program. With a score of 1160, you may not be in a strong position to get a call from IIM Ranchi, but if you have strong extracurricular activities and good academic performance in the past (e.g. in 10th and 12th grade), you may still have a chance.

If you do not receive a call from IIM Ranchi, you can still try for the IIM Indore IPM-AT program. You must keep in mind that IIM Ranchi may also consider applicants for the IIM Indore IPM-AT program. It's worth giving it your best effort.

To be shortlisted for the IIM Ranchi PGDHRM program, it is generally required for a candidate to have a percentile of more than 92%. Keep in mind that the CAT score is not the only factor that is considered for the shortlisting process.

The graduation score and work experience are also taken into account, with a weightage of 15% and 10% respectively. Therefore, it is important to have a strong overall profile to increase the chances of being shortlisted for the program.

IIM Ranchi reserves the right to alter or modify the shortlisting and selection criteria for the MBA-HR program, as well as any other information related to the admissions criteria document, at any time if deemed necessary.

How can I crack the IIM Ranchi HRM interview process?

JJ
Jason Jose Posted On : January 19th, 2023
B.COM (Hons) from Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya, Indore (Graduated 2018)

An HRM interview may be similar to other MBA interviews, but it's likely that you'll be asked "Why HR?" If you have experience in the field or have studied HRM, it will be easier to answer this question. However, if you're switching fields, you'll need to explain your interest in detail. It's important to stay honest and not try to deceive the interviewers, even if HR isn't your first choice. The rest of the interview process will be similar to other IIM interviews.

One student with a finance background shared his personal experience of being asked this question during an HRM interview, even though he had already received offers from other IIMs and HRM wasn't his first choice.
